Default Quick Calling

On my Bold making calls was a snap. Press the green phone key and click 2 or 3 letters to access your target.

The Torch seems to be more clumsy. You have to first press the phone key, then press the address book icon (unless you have the number memorized), then press the keyboard icon, and finally click on the 2 or 3 letters of your target before you can get your call off.

Do you have a quicker way of making calls from your Torch short of using speed dial numbers?

Isn't that's how most touch screen phones are? Unless you use those selective speed dial presets. I can not think of any other way though I am not a touch user. You are right my bold is really bold in dialing out.

When I press the phone key, my contact list appears, touch the search box and as stated typing 2-3 letters gets me my target.

But just pressing instead the search icon in the desktop will bring up the keyboard and then type the 2-3 letters.. My preference...use the keyboard while in desktop, and do not even need to press the search icon. Just start typing and your contacts appear. Emphasis here is that the Search tool is very nifty.

Very cool. I'm just starting to figure out the universal search function, and this one is new. It appears to be the only way you can dial using letters directly from your contacts without having to slide the phone open. (Not allowing you to use the phone key to dial directly from contacts, unless you slide the phone open, is awkward.)

One question, though. When I press the phone key I get the numbers pad, with a search box limited to dialing numbers, and a tab for my contacts list. How can you get your contact list to appear when you push the phone key?

Clymerclan, you say:

"...use the keyboard while in desktop, and do not even need to press the search icon."

How do you access the keyboard while in desktop without using the search button?

Duh...of course. Thanks for the patience as I transition to the 9800.

Hi Guinda, to get your contact list to appear when you push the phone key, what you need to do is set it up in phone option.

1. Open Phone (press green phone key)
2. Press BB button, select "OPTIONS"
3. Select group "CALL LOGS AND LISTS"
4. Under "PHONE APPEARANCE" section, select from drop down menu of "INITIAL VIEW" you can choose DIAL PAD, CONTACT LIST, PREVIOUS or CALL LOG.

Hope this helps.

Sonny
