I am sorry that you don't understand me. I did not miss the point of the thread which was how to fix the zoom problem on some Blackberry phones. I tried to help out by giving a solution which I had researched and tested because I was unable to use the zoom (using the trackball) while taking pictures. The solution was a one time thing which was to use the volumn up and down to "fix" the zoom function. I am unable to explain just why it works, but the trick does work. I think that there is a communication problem because I feel that I did my part by making a suggestion to "fix the zoom problem" and only get "flamed" instead of being "thanked".

Ok! I reread the thread. Apparently, the point is that zoom no longer works on Blackberry phones. I misunderstood that some people had problems getting the zoom function to work, but now I see that some people complain that Blackberry does not have the zoom function. It looks like I did miss the original point, but putting aside the "fix zoom", zoom does work on my Tour.

Ok, here it is: BlackBerrys don't zoom, never have, not even yours. They simply crop the image, and it appears zoomed because the image remains full screen. That is the OP's issue, and the OP want's to know when RIM will provide true zoom, or if ever.

I would put it more specifically as:

• The OP would like to see an optical zoom.
• The OP holds that what RIM claims as a digital zoom is only cropping.
• Digital zoom is a crop followed by an interpolation, this is what a BlackBerry does to display the image full screen after the crop
• A BlackBerry stores the cropped image, not the cropped interpolated image. Since the interpolation can be done at any time I would say this is an implementation detail. Several benefits come from this way of implementing digital zoom.
• The OP seems to consider storing only the cropped image and interpolating on display to be a missimplementation. This is certainly a valid position to hold.

One can be dissapointed to find out that BlackBerry does not implement digital zoom the way the OP feels it should be, or recognize the benefits from the implementation they chose instead. Just one more reasone one can either love, hate or be ambivalent about BlackBerry and RIM.

What would be interesting to know from those who carry iPhones and Androids is what they do as far as digital zoom goes.

Ah - Now I see! The Blackberry device does not have a true zoom. Now I am taking myself out of this thread because I cannot NOW discuss or argue the difference between digital and optical zoom in technical terms. So I was right about the communication problem. Thanks for clarifying the real point of this thread (SMILE)!

I think you should this way to restart it is to press alt+caps and press delete. does the same thing as if you would have taken your battery out. phone worked for me then you can do Blackberry cameras still no zoom every time.

why bother reading the question, just write something with a few key words in it like "phone" "battery" and "restart"
