Retrieving PIN to PIN Messaging from BES or handheld?

I am assuming from the article, that these people deleted the PIN-to-PIN messages they send from the BB. Or are they getting the PIN-to-PIN send messages from a *.ipd files, from a local computer backup?

Anyone know how they do this, besides using your lawyers to get it from your ISP (i.e. Rogers)

After reading this, I was under the impression that these users were on a BES....And tha this is the reason why ther PINs where "backed up"!!!

Nonetheless... I am really surprised... I too am on a BES... And I always believed that PIN to PIN messages were transparent... Or from device to device only...

I would assume it is saved on the server, or at least whatever is saved on the device is. Simply because with playing with BES 4.0, when you restore a device with BES, it will restore old emails, PIN, phone, etc.. message all saved previously to wiping the device.

PIN messages can be retrieved from backups (wireless or *.ipd files) or by using third party apps on the handheld (Onset make one) that \"email\" a copy of the PIN messages to a mailbox. They could also theoretically be retrieved from your wireless provider. Remember that by default, PIN to PIN messages are only scrambled with the same generic key that all handhelds have imprinted at manufacture. Hence the term scrambled, not encrypted.

Mind educating a nonAdmin?

Cingular 7290 using the corporate BES for work and Cingular BWC for
home stuff. My assumption was that those were separate and that
work could not see any of the home stuff. That assumption would
have include PIN messages.

What is the 'backup' y'all are talking about? I have never knowingly
invoked a backup. I do use wireless email reconciliation/calandar and
connect to eh PC to sync Address book.

BES 4.0 can backup a handheld wirelessly. All your data belongs to the company, when it resides on a company issued blackberry, that is using a company owned and maintained BES server.
