Default Can BES server tell what type of device you have?

Please Login to Remove!

I am sure it knows what PIN is tied to your device, but can it tell the specific device you're using? Or can the device manufacturer/model be derived from the PIN? I am using a device that is not officially supported by my company, and the support folks are saying they will disable anyone using one of these. Is this just an idle threat, or if there a way for them to find out?

with BES 4.0, you will be able to see this information. there's a few more posts in this particular section (on the first page) with the same question/information...

You can not currently. I needed to know what device I was working with on the BES a few weeks ago. If you have the IMEI you can call the carrier and they can provide what model it is. Other than that there is no way of telling what the device is from the BES at this point.

Does the IMEI show up somewhere in the BES?

Default PIN number

We are currently running 5 BES servers and have 1500 users on them total. If I log in, I can tell by their PIN number only what carrier they have. Verizon PINs start with a 3, Nextel a 4, T-mobile and ATT a 2. Other than that, we can't tell.

It's true though with BES4 you can tell the device type (6230/7210/7100/etc), carrier, software installed and even down to how much battery life they have left.

Default If your BB handheld is 4.0, otherwise no

After upgrading the BB Handheld to 4.0 there is a wealth of info:

Handheld Model
Platform Version
Blackberry Version
Phone Number
Serial Number
Home Network
Carrier
Security Password
Memory
IT Policy Name
IT Policy Time
Configuration Name
Server Name

and more on the Home Screen for a Handheld selected

If you 'View Handheld Properties'
you get more

Available Memory
Battery Level
Uptime
Service Books
Applications
Modules

and more... :D

The BES admin today was showing me some monitoring tool they were evaluating. You could look at a profile and it would tell you what technology the blackberry was using. (CDMA, iDEN, Mobitex, GPRS etc)

umm. thats available with BES 3.6. BES 4.0 (w/ OS 4.0) breaks it down to tell you what device you have, what network you are on, what provider you are using, battery life available, etc.
