Default Reinstall SBS2003 and BES on new hardware

Hi,

We have a SBS2003 server with BES 3.6 installed on the same machine (I know it is not supported but it runs fine for over a year now). However, I need to upgrade to a new machine and like to do a complete reinstall, with a fresh copy of SBS2003.

I import and export the users, use ExMerge to transfer the Exchange mail etc. I have done it before so the SBS part will be no problem. However, a few of my BlackBerry users are all over Europe and it will be difficult to have them come into the office to recradle/register at the server after a fresh BES install.

How can I avoid the recradle/registration at the server after the install? Can I migrate some part of BES to avoid this?

And no, BES 4.0 is not available here yet so an OTA registration is not possible.

Thanks for your help.

Do you have a VPN?

I think that would be your only option. Have the users synch via vpn. Otherwise, they have to ship them to you

Yes, most of my users are connected with the office lan with VPN. How can the recradle via network/vpn? What do you mean by synch?

Default Re: Reinstall SBS2003 and BES on new hardware

I was just reading the "Administration Guide" which came with our BES 3.6SP1 software. I was always under the impression that a new BlackBerry user needed to be cradled to the server for first time initialization (key generation etc) before it can be used.

However, the manual suggests that (after adding the user to the BES server using the "BES management" tool) connecting to the Desktop software is sufficient to enable the BlackBerry for BES. In other words, physical connection to the server is not required. Is this correct?

That's right... if the remote users have a computer, use rpc over http to connect their outlook to the new server, then have them use the desktop manager to generate a new key.
