Default BlackBerry Connect on BES - How?

Please Login to Remove!

To All:

With Cingular's announcement of BlackBerry Connect

(BlackBerry)

wondering if any of you has any insight on what needs to be done on the BES side to connect a Treo with BlackBerry Connect to the BES.

Thanks!

add the user, set up a wireless activation password, and activate wirelessly.

easy enough to add a BB Connect user to the BES (see jibi's note above). Our concern is more around what exactly we'll be able to control/manage on the BB Connect device. I have a feeling that I'll be fighting an uphill battle at my company to get BB Connect devices permitted without another device management solution on top of BES since there's more to them than just a RIM software stack. :(

No EA on BB connect yet, which means you can't use it with GroupWise. Exchange and Domino must be activated from the Desktop through a special Desktop Manager that ships with it.

Edit I just noticed that you DO use GroupWise, you won't be able to use it yet anyway.

Same as with BB Connect for every other device, right? That sounds like how I set up the Nokia 9300s....

Basically you have BES 3.6 functionality.

Without MDS.

You get mail, calendar and attachment viewing and that's all.

it is depending on what the handheld vendor is implementing.
rim is giving the connect software to the handheld vendor and they are responsible for the implementation on their device.
nokia is doing not that well, we had errors with basically every feature. I would ask your treo sales rep to give you detailed list of supported features...

If you just want to use the device to send and receive emails then all is ok. But we had major issues with recurring calendar appointments /missing appointments and duplicate appointments.

just thought I would let you know, Oh and I don't think RIM support it either, so if you have a problem then you have to go to nokia /blackberry connect.

Good luck.

The nokia 9300? I had one for a while and it was awesome, didn't screw up my calendar once, which is amazing.

If the calendar is broken I would double check your BES to make sure it is configured correctly (especially Exchange) Don't trust the mapi32.dll/cdo.dll file info you will get on these forums either.

Ya... whoops. the other guy had it right.... this quote aboce is WRONG. Please do not tell people that BB connect supports wireless ea or wireless sync. It does not.

And yes, very important to remind BES admins of GW systems, NO BB CONNECT SUPPORT ON GW BES. When BB connect offers wireless EA and AES encryption support, then you can play.

You need your BES to support 3DES or AES/3DES encryption as BB Connect devices only support 3DES.

Also, if your account was first associated to a 4.0 or newer device and your BES encryption model is set to AES/3DES then your account is encrypted with AES. To connect a BB Connect device to this account you have to blow it away and recreate it.
