Default Blackberry 8830 on Foreign SIM

Please Login to Remove!

Hi There,

One of my co-workers has a Bell Blackberry 8830 with a foreign (New Delhi, India) SIM provisioned on Vodaphone. They're in the midst of adding the Blackberry data plan. At the moment she has lower case 'gprs' in the top right corner. I'm under the impression that it should become all CAPS GPRS when the blackberry service plan has been sucessfully added.

I've already added her to the BES here in Canada so I'm just waiting on her to get vodaphone to sucessfully add on the Blackberry Data Plan.

Will we require to change the APN settings on the unit for it to have Blackberry service?

Yes, it will go upper-case when her service is active.

No, you do not need the APN for BlackBerry service, only some third-party apps.

Another problem has arised.

Vodaphone in India has succesfully added the Blackberry Data Package. The user is not getting capital GPRS.

When we went to go activate the BES, it says to contact the administrator.

- I asked her to go to the TCP settings and select register now thinking that it would push the vodafone service books to the 8830. She can't even see the browser icon which tells me the service books haven't been pushed.
- I-ve asked her to wipe the device, and no go with that.
- Also asked her to send a PIN to me here in Canada. She gets a red X trying to send it. When I try to send her a PIN, I get a red X on my end.

Not sure how we should proceed now. Just to confirm she is getting captial GPRS.

EDIT: Just so that there's more information. She used to use a foreign SIM with BB service back in the UK and it was working perfectly. PINs, BES, etc. etc.

Has she pulled the battery after the service was activated? Has she set the device to GSM only?

Case Closed.

We called vodafone and the service books pushed to it. However, it still wouldn't activate. We called vodafone again and it seems it wasn't setup with enterprise server.

BES activated and up and running on a foreign SIM with data on an 8830 world edition successfully!

Thanks dc/dc.
