Is this bold fake?
Please Login to Remove!
I saw this Blackberry Bold on ebay BlackBerry Bold Cellphone 8.0MP camera on eBay.ca (item 160504945072 end time 11-Nov-10 07:49:58 EST) and it looks like a good deal to buy, great shape, lots of accessories etc. But the one thing thats stopping me from paying for it is that after I bought it I noticed that I couldn't see the word "blackberry" on the top and I refuse to pay for a fake item.
So is this bold fake?

Re: Is this bold fake?
Looks legit other than the 8MP camera part. I believe the phone has an aftermarket housing on it. If you are to purchase it, make sure you are protected by Paypal in case..

Re: Is this bold fake?
Hmm, i didn't know you could even buy aftermarket housings. It kind of sucks how there is no blackberry symbol on the top (I get bugged by little things like that) I'm still a little bit iffy about purchasing it. Just for the fact that its apparently brand new, and the guy received it last week as a gift. I shouldn't of hit buy it now without looking closely at the picture.

Might be a Chinese knock-off. If so the PIN is not valid and you cannot get any RIM services such as email, BBM, the Browser, Facebook, maps, etc.

Re: Is this bold fake?
I call BS on this one.
"Mobile TV Capable" "FM Transmitter" plus the aforementioned "8MP camera"
Plus it doesn't say WHICH 'Bold' model number it is.
Surely a listing for an actual BlackBerry would list some BlackBerry features such as BBM.

I just sent him a message and he told me that its right under the speaker, but I really can't see it. Should I pay for it or just say no because its too risky?

I would say no. And I would also check the FAQ about buying a BB off of eBay.

Re: Is this bold fake?
I don't know. Look at the depth of the box in the photo. How is that box supposed to contain the phone, the battery (which is never installed during shipping), an AC charger, a USB cable, ear buds, and the instruction manuals? It seems just enough to hold the phone, most BlackBerry boxes are about 3 inches deep.

Re: Is this bold fake?
The guy's eBay ratings seem fine, but he probably doesn't know enough about the phone to know it's bogus himself. I'd steer clear of this.

Re: Is this bold fake?
The feedback is not that recent. Also, feedback can be faked using automated programs on eBay. If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, does not mean that you are getting a duck.
Price is not the only consideration. Consider how much you are willing to lose, rather than how much you might be saving. I would not buy this ....

Re: Is this bold fake?
I'd like to thank everyone for the input, I have chosen not to purchase it and explained my situation to the guy. I did get a good deal on a Bold 2 from a friend who upgraded to a torch so I was still able to get a blackberry!

Glad to hear it. The 9700 is a terrific smartphone and if you have any questions you know where to come.

Re: Is this bold fake?
I've bought a lot of stuff from eBay through the years, especially cell phones. Here are indications if they are Chinese knockoffs.
1. Dual or multi-SIM card slots are your biggest red flags
2. TV antenna
Also, if they look like Chinese knockoffs, they are.

Re: Is this bold fake?
Oh no. I had some experience with such phones. They are not Blackberry and they will never be. I have never seen a BB with TV, just to give example.
