Question Small Business One BB User

Please Login to Remove!

Hi All,

I have a client that has one blackberry user and wants to receive his company e-mail on his blackberry. We have Microsoft SBS 2008 with Exchange 2007. We have the pop3 e-mail being routed into Exchange 2007 so rolling back for one user might be an option.

What is the most cost effective option?

What is the best option?

Thanks in advance.

Since a BIS account is provided with a BB data plan and you can allow POP access, that is probably the way to go.

Mail is generally received with a 15 minute or less delay. Can't see it being worth getting BES for just one user.

Your right, BES is overkill, for a small business use BPS Express, it comes with 1 user license for free and will allow the user to enterprise sync his device.

I was told BPS Xpress does not work with Exchange 2007. Can you give me any info regarding that rumor?

I don't see anything on BPS Xpress so I doubt the validity of that product or RIM's support of it. I did find on the RIM website this, which could be the same, BlackBerry - BlackBerry Professional Software

Can I run it all on one server (no virtualization) or does xpress require its own seperate server?

BPS is designed to run on a single server with exchange. BPS Express is the free version of BlackBerry Professional Server...with 1 license...there's no difference between the software if you buy it or use the free version other then the number of licenses. When you buy BPS you get 5 licenses, with the free it's only 1.

Dubdub, if you doubt me, click on Pricing & Purchasing. Read down the page and you'll see:

How to Buy

Get started with BlackBerry® Professional Software Express. Itxxx8217;s a free download with one Client Access License included. Purchase additional CALs as you need them. Learn more about BlackBerry Professional Software Express

You click on the link and it'll bring you right to where I linked to. I posted the direct link to save time.

It will not run on SBS 2008 unless you have a VM or seperate box for it.

So then the only options are:
1. Buy BES 5.0 and virtualize or buy new hardware.
2. Take mail back to POP3 with 15 min delay in mail reception.
3. (not sure about this) run the desktop application on users desktop?

A separate server with BPS on it would work just fine.

If you're talking about Redirector in #3, most would probably recommend that you avoid this.

How crucial is the syncing of contacts, calender, and the like? If not a big deal, BIS might be the best bet.
