Re: How do I know if I'm using 3G or WiFi?
I think the answer to your questions are
1) When wi-fi is turned on you will see the symbol for wi-fi on your phone, if it is the "prefered" connection you will see the phone reconnecting to wi-fi when it comes into range of the router that it is set up with, with my phone the symbol for the connection will change from EDGE to UMA, (I'm not sure but I think your wi-fi symbol changes color) However, the other day I read a post that said if you want to check what connection it is using, shut off the the radio connection for 3-G and if your phone is still connected to the internet it must be using the wi-fi connection. (also good to note what your connection symbol looks like at this time so you will know when you see it again)
2) Yes, it is always more of a drain on the phone battery to run more connections than you are currently using (Sometimes quite a bit more) The wi-fi, and bluetooth connections do not stop running and searching just because your not using them, and that uses battery life.
