Default 8800 - email on GPRS without BES/BIS?

Please Login to Remove!

I just picked up a used TMOB-branded 8800 and I'm very happy with it so far, it's a nice upgrade from my (even older) 8700c.

I don't have BES/BIS, I run the old grandfathered $5.99 T-Zones plan, so I get WAP/HTTP over GRPS or EDGE. I use the BB Browser, Opera Mini 4, and occasionally Bolt, they all work just fine.

I can access my free POP3 email accounts like Yahoo and Gmail over the web. The only issue is that I'd like to configure the BB for one of my POP3 accounts...any of them, really, doesn't matter which...so that I can click on an "email" link in a popup menu instead of having to navigate to the email portal and log in.

When I try to run Email setup, I only get the option to use a work account through BES (natch). Does anyone know of a workaround or an app to fix this?

Thanks! Arjay

Nope, to use push email from RIM, it requires a Blackberry data plan.

To use the RIM related services such as push email, you need the BB data plan. I am a bit surprised that you are able to use the BB browser.

Yes, the BB browser works, although the homepage is locked to the TMobileweb start page, and I get the T-Zones icon instead of the correct BB browser icon. The other browser settings are accessible as normal. This may be because it's a TMOB-branded phone with TMOB f/w.

I don't particularly care about push email, I would just like to be able to send an email through a menu item rather than navigate to a webmail page.

Thanks for the replies so far!

Its not possible.

For you to get the ability to have "compose email" in the menu; you need to have BIS and an account setup on it. Which you can't get without a blackberry data plan.
