To what other device are you comparing the 8100? The 8100 is also a "world edition".

Seeing that your carrier is Tmobile, here are your options:

Pearl: 8100, 8120. 8120 is newer, go with that as it gives you wifi.
Pearl Flip. Like Pearl but is a flip version.
Curve 8320, Curve 8900. 8900 is newer. Also has better screen (resolution), more memory, thinner.

Pick your carrier first. The 8100 and the 8830 are offered by completely different carriers.

no you guys, you don't understand. I already have a phone, blackberry pearl 8100, my friend has the world edition (verizon wireless) 8830. We were comparing our phones and trying to decide which is better and newer. So i came to ask here. Carrier doesn't matter...i'm talking about the phone.

Well you didn't say that!!!

As far as which one is better (carrier not-withstanding), that's a matter of personal opinion as they are just about equal in specification. I prefer the 81xx to the 88xx, but others will have other opinions.

Both phones pretty much have the same hardware but the 81xx has a camera.. That is pretty much the only difference.

And the keyboard layout of course.

Default agree with sellebuy

ya, you need to take carrier first. then, the best is the one that meets your need and interest: the color, the shape, the applications. hope you get the good choice or you may need to change the carrier. nice day guys
