Default Bold 9780 and EXCEL?

Please Login to Remove!

I read a few reviews on line and they led me to believe the 9780 will read .xls files, but I see nothing in the manual regarding this. On my Pearl I had Docs2Go. Do I have to go this route again for the 9780? On line info is misleading or I am missing something.
Thanks.

If the Excel file is attached to an email message, then the native messaging application can "view" (but not open) the file. The messaging application "converts" the file to an image for viewing.

If you want to open and/or edit the file, then you need to use Documents to Go (which is free on the BlackBerry).

Likewise, if you want to open an Excel file that is stored on the device or the Media Card, you will need to use Documents to Go.

It's the same functionality as other BlackBerry devices. Nothing misleading.

Thanks for the reply.

I found a few sites with Documents to Go, but nothing free for my 9780. A free trial, but $$ later. I had to pay for it on my Pearl anyway, I was led to believe the Bold opened the files without 3rd party software. If you have a link to a version for me, that would be great. I really don't need the pdf and word docs, but if that's part of the package, that's oK.

2. Are you the MM on Zumo forums as well?

Thanks!

1. You should have the free version of Documents To Go as part of the device OS. If it's not there, try loading it from the BlackBerry Desktop Manager on your computer. You will need to download and install the device OS to your computer.

2. Yes.

Ahhh, spent some more time looking and found it. It opens the files fine.

Thanks!
