Default Backlight timer Issue-please help

Please Login to Remove!

I have had my 8700 for about a week and love it but am having a problem. This morning I went out to the car where I had left my device to find the battery dead (it was fully charged yesterday) and have determined that the backlight timer does not work. I have it set to turn off after 2 minutes, but now it does not shut off and is always on. I'm thinking that the phone is defective, but the only difference is that it was colder overnight than usual (about 20F). Would that have made a difference? I recharged the phone it is now warm, yet the backlight remains on, despite powering on and off and trying to change the settings.Any help would be appreciated prior to going back to the Cingular store. Thanks.

It should time out. unless you loaded other software your in for a new unit. If you want to experiment, try reloading the software. If you are unsure of how to do this or are not too comfortable doing it, take it back to the store.

good luck

Default now it only "works" when set to 30 seconds..

On all of the other settings the backlight stays on. I did not load any other software so I will take it back to Cingular.
Thanks

Interestingly, I have had my 8700 backlight no longer shut off out of the holster since I did the new software update from Cingular. Did you do the recent update? Or with yours being new perhaps it already had the update?

I'm still looking for a solution to my issue. I am checking some other users around to see if they have done the update and seen the same thing happen. It has been days but I noticed while it was sitting here on the desk that it never went off...

I went up to the new one that Cingular just posted that is being discussed in the forums. Its 8700c Cingular OS Upgrade Package v4.1.0.529 - Applications: 4.1.0.377.

I have checked with other folks locally who have recently upgraded who are not having the same issue. It only seems to be happening to me at this point.

But this thread got me thinking that I had also added in WebMessenger's Blackberry Alerts at about the same time. I just removed it and now my backlighting seems to be working correctly again! I was looking at Alert's ability to have Vibrate AND Ring but I guess I'll give that up for backlighting .

I am also having backlight issues since the OS upgrade. Mine is set to time out after 30 seconds, however I have experienced both constant on conditions as well as time out after a few seconds. A battery pull seems to have fixed it (at least temporarily). I'll have to see if the issue returns.

Did taking the battery out and putting it back in fix the problem? Also are you on a BES or BIS? Taking the batter out and back in seems to only temporarily fix the problem - at least for me...

Interesting. I've had a backlight time issue since upgrading to the latest Cingular OS but if always turns off after a few seconds regardless of settings...

I have had problems with the backlighting either staying on constantly or shutting off very quickly since the OS upgrade. In each instance, a battery pull seems to fix it (at least for a while anyway).

The OS upgrade caused the same "off quick" backlight problem. I pulled the battery for 30 seconds and it fixed it for about two months. Had to pull it again last night because it started the two second light again. Worked to day so far.
