TIM = Telecom Italia Mobile

Like Vodafone, they also own networks in other countries around the world.

You are trying to download them from the Blackberry web site and there isn't any on the web site, hence the error message.

I have sent Jibi a PM to create an ALX file for the Rogers 8800. I'm sure if you downloaded the Cingular 8800 ALX that Jibi created it would unlock the themes.

Can't wait for the Rogers 8800 ALX file - thanks in advance Jibi!

Seeing that you are new here and I was at one time too, here is the link:

Please be mindful and look around abit and use the search function. You will find that most of your questions have already been answered a zillion times.

Good luck.

Problem is on that VERY LINK that has the so called SEARCH for information .... Jibi clearly states

" * Note: I will be monitoring and keeping this thread clean of almost all questions. I don't want to have another 10 page thread concerning 'is this compatible with that' and 'i did this but now my phone doesn't work anymore - please help'. This thread is meant for people who know what they are doing, plain and simple."

Well I DON"T know what I'm doing and thus I would also be asking the same question. SO could you provide us newbies with the best criteria as a search to be able to get the full monty on just how to do this or be selective in what we're after. I even pm'd jibi asking for help about a week ago and got no response - either he's too busy or ??

Any help that is better than just 'search' would be helpful. Some of us do actually use it just not as good as others, so some compasion would be nice.

Thanks.

I'd like to post an update.

Somewhat apologetic with a little "A-HA! Even YOU had difficulty at one point & time" in the mix.

Now I'd like to begin that throughout this tread and Jibi's other thread MANY ppl have posted links going back to the 8800 Alx based thread stating "do a search" and others being kind enough to post back to the same thread to which doesn't help true newbies such as myself when we see "This thread is meant for people who know what they are doing, plain and simple."

However, in defense of Jibi - and many others - maybe playing with .alx files is NOT meant for newbies! Some of us would like to dare to try though but not blindly.

I by CHANCE happened amongst 2 threads that Mark R. posted a WHILE back when the 7100 series just debuted, which linked to Jibi's earlier threads on Themes. Even then the great Jibi himself/herself (I'm unsure) posted some difficulty with an Orange theme.

I think it would be fair to post back to similar threads for newbs to get a handle on things.

If I may ...

Yes although these threads are out of date for OLDER models > I'm assuming that the basic principle will STILL follow.

Please correct me if I'm wrong. And thank you for all your efforts to enabling poor chaps such as myself the ability to use other vendor themes.

Quick question... I followed the steps exactly, and while all the themes show up as usable, I cannot click on two of them (sprint, verizon)... is this fixable? Thanx!

I wish the blue T-Mobile theme did not put the BB Messenger into a folder. I liked the theme when I was using the Pearl and would like to use it on the 8800. Not having the BB Msg icon available outside a folder kinda sucks.

I wasn't a fan of that either, but I ended up using the left convenience key for BB Messenger.

Good idea. I just like seeing the notification icon when a message arrives. I guess I see one anyways on the top.

Not fixable...basically, they're "placeholders"...the themes don't exist at present.

fyi...if you have "Dial from Home Screen" set to Off, the "n" key is the shortcut to BB Messenger. That's my shortcut of choice.

Anyway possible to get some of these themes OTA? I particularly like the TMO Zen one that has the application ribbon on the bottom (like a Mac) versus to the left side. If not, is there any other aftermarket ones that has the same feature I want?

Either be brave and edit the Blackberry.alx yourself, or wait for the Software to be posted, and for jibi to post all the files to the .alx thread. You can do it with your current software...no need to downgrade.

Hi Pizzle, I found the Blackberry.alx and ready to go on the edit. My vendor ID is 102 for Cingular. I think TMO is 100. If I want the TMO Zen theme listed in my previous post, what would be my step to complete this?

Delete all the vendor references. Anything that says "vendor = 100|102|115", etc. Delete it.

Save a copy of the alx somewhere in case you screw up. Make sure to leave the ">" at the end of the line of code.
