Default Random Time Zone Changes

Please Login to Remove!

My wife's BB Storm 2 has been receiving random messages that her time zone is being reset to Central time zone or back to Mountain time zone (we live in the Mountain time zone). This occurs at random times, but when it happens, it does several switches within minutes.

Anyone experience this phenomenon? Any suggestions?

Are you geographically close to a time zone border?
The device is likely picking up time from two different towers in two different zones.

In this case, I'd suggest going into Options - Date/Time and dsiable the automatic changing of the time zone!

Curious to here the answer to penguin's question. That was my first thought, too.

We are not that close to the time zone border (we are in Las Cruces, NM). Also, my (same) phone does not do it. Both phones are up to date with latest OS.

Just curious. How far are you from the border with Texas?

Connecting to the mobile network on the other side of the border would be an explanation, though I have no idea how likely that would be over a connecting to a tower local to you.

I've never experienced it. This is first I've read of it. But NJ gave the solution.

We are close to El Paso, TX (50 mi), but that is not the time zone border. It is further east. Also note that my phone does not exhibit this phenomenon. It is also a Storm 2.

Do you have the exact same OS version on both devices?
Are the Auto Update Time Zone settings identical on both devices?

Either way, you are a relatively long distance from the time zone border.

Does it continue to happen after a hard reset?

I guess if it were me, and a hard reset didn't fix it, I'd first try a security wipe and select the option to delete third party applications, and then see what happens. If all is good, I'd then restore from a backup and add back third party apps one at a time.

Yes, both phones have same OS version and settings. They do have some different apps, however. Battery pull has no effect. This is more of a nuisance than anything as we can always change the settings to not update automatically since we don't routinely travel between time zones. I was just curious to see if anyone else has seen this happen.

I'm having the same problem with my 9630. I live in the Mountain Time zone and am visiting Chicago. I manually set the time zone to Central, but it randomly adjusts back to Mountain. Chicago is no where near the time zone border.

That is strange. Seems like the solution in post #3 is your best bet, for now.
