The up/down buttons on the right side of the phone are said in all the literature to control volume. When I push them, I see no graphic (like most phones have) telling me the volume is going up or down. I don't think it works.

So

I went to profiles and chose "Loud". That helped. But now, every email I get makes a loud beep. That is unacceptable. So I have 2 questions.
1. How can I get the volume buttons to work?
2. How can I eliminate the email alert without affecting ring volume?

1. The volume buttons work with the Media applications (music, video) and with the Phone function. Not the ringer volume but the phone voice function itself.

2. Open the active Profile and edit EACH item in the manner you wish. The Phone and Email alerts are all separate.

Just to expand a bit....If you are just pressing the up and down buttons you will not see anything. The buttons only work DURING a call or playing music I think. If nothing is actually playing there is nothing to control.
