I'm just thinking out loud here...
Although the following refers to an old version of Desktop Manager, this seems to illustrate the problem of tackling what is essentially a
cascaded address bok set up (something we Domino admins have taken advantage of for a while now).

Another thing we Domino admins are used to is being able to pretty code and glue functionality together using the programability of Notes and Domino, particularly through the uses of server-side agents and scheduled Program documents. One solution may of us have tried to to create some sort of
Frankenstein's monster solution where we tried to do various purge/dump/load of the Domino directory (or a subset) into the user's personal address book on a schedule. Depending on the mechanism used, this can really be resource intenstive on the server.
Now this document (KB01993) seems to suggest to me, that RIM
could natively implement some of that functionality, since they are already polling for changes in a person document. This would only be a one way sync (which won't matter since in most shops end users can't make sweeping changes to the Domino Directory as it is).

Another thing I've noticed is that the categories listed in the Address Book on my handheld are the categories I use in my Tasks/ToDo. I always thought that was odd. I guess that's just the inherent limitations in most middleware. You never get 1:1 representation. Though we as admins do keep trying (most due to our our needs or those of the users we represent).
It would be nice if we could just cascade the darn Domino Directory within a setting on the BES server, then just assign the domino directory its own reserved service book, or category, or whatever, so the two are separable on the handheld (since invariably that will be the second request users have, and justifiably so).
