I just purchased an unlock code from the service offer in this forum for my Torch 9800. While waiting for the code I read the unlock instructions and it indicated that SIM card must be inserted.
I have 2 questions regarding the SIM card:
1) If Telus is the current carrier, do I need to use a Telus SIM or can I use any SIM?
2) Does it matter if I use an old inactive SIM card that hasn't been used for a couple of years?

Just make sure you don't forget to turn off all connections before entering the unlock code.

Don't use your current SIM, you can use an inactive one.

Don't forget to reset/reboot your phone after unlocking.
