Voice Status Updates

If I press the voice dial button and say "Status," sometimes it will rattle off the status of everything, i.e. "Battery: 75%. Signal Strength: High. Coverage:..." etc. And sometimes it says "Specify" and I have to state whether I want battery status or some other kind of status.
And when it makes me specify and I ask for a Battery check, it won't give me the percentage at that point. It only says the percentage when it randomly decides to give me a full status update. Instead, it says useless things like "Medium".
Why does it do this? Is anyone else experiencing this? Anyone know of a way I can have it give me full status every time, and the battery percentage every time?
(And yes, I know I can look this stuff up by clicking Options > Status. That isn't convenient when driving. I'm strictly talking voice features here.)
