I just noticed that all the custom ringtones I had set for contacts were gone. The ringtones were still on the phone but no longer asigned to the contacts. Not a big deal I just reasigned them, but it happened after upgrading to .77

Which seems pretty ridiculous to me, since they worked in 4.3. Given that Media Manager encodes in such a way that apparently makes them compatible, it seems as though this specific reduction in functionality is purposeful on RIM's part.

Thanks for the pointer to Media Manager, though. I hope you understand that my mini-rant wasn't aimed at you.

Been looking for a resolution to the BB Messenger contact reset bug. If I just install the new BB Messengers files from this beta, will it work or is the BBM OS specific? I am running a 8300 on 4.5.0.55.

Did you get it loaded? I think if you have the previous loader file in the same location as the new one, it won't recognize the updated one. Move the old OS to another folder. Not sure if that's it, but worked for me.

I agree because when you encode them as 3gp they take up half the amount of space of when you use the media manager, and take ten times as long to transfer over to the BB as drag and drop.

Default .77 first OS upgrade!?

I have an 8830 currently, but my 8330 will be here tomorrow. I have used all the OS betas on the 8830 and luckily have done so with little to no problems. My question for you current 8330 users is if I chose to upgrade to OS 4.5.0.77 for the new 8330, how do I fix the ring tone issue if I do not have a previous version of 4.5? Or, is it as simple as downloading and upgrading to .51 first, then upgrading to .77 so I can use the fix (java folder find/change name fix) talked about for the ring tone problems? Thanks for your help and direction.

I used the fix for the 8830 and it was smooth and simple, but I already had the previous 5.5 version downloaded and installed.

you don't need to install a previous 4.5 version to your BB first, you just need to download and "install" it on your PC (\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\) to be able to grab the file. you don't even have to install it on the same PC, if you're worried about confusing things; just need to grab the file.

Ok, I am stumped. Running 4.5.0.66. Downloaded .77
Trying to load it on vzw 8330. Instead of doing an install, I keep getting a repair or remove program screen. Have tried deleting and re-downloading the program, rebooting device, etc. Still no luck. First time I have ever run into anything similar to this when doing an upgrade.

Anyone else run into this issue? Any ideas on what I might do to get it going? Thanks!

Default 4.3 vs. 4.5

Hey all... again...

I did a quick search to find the answer and can not really find anything. Thought I would rely on you current 8330 users....

I currently have the 8830 running 4.5.0.77. I just got my new 8330 and it is running 4.3.0.127. As I look at them side by side, I do not see any differences in the O.S. I get HTML email on the 8330, contacts seem to render in the new 4.5 format and the calendar looks the same as well. I am sure I am missing something, I just do not know what it is. If anyone can let me know the difference between 4.3 and 4.5 please do so. I appreciate it.... In the mean time I will continue my search... thanks again!

I have an 8830 and I installed .77 over this weekend. It's great! I am so happy with it. Just read this post to make sure you don't loose your ringtones and vibrate function.

Look for post #50 and the posts after that one. They were a big help.

I must have had a bad install.

switched to .77 from .66 -

#1 complaint - my font I always use disapeared (I may have done that when I was cleaning out the install)
#1 real complaint - I keep losing my data connection. especially after a longer call. I show 1XEV, but there is no data connection. I have to go and turn off the radio, then turn it back on, and it comes right back.
#2 when someone calls me from their 'work' entry, it doesnt show their name, just the company they work for.

I will give it one more day before downgrading to .66.

does anyone know if you do a full wipe with javaloader, and are on BES, if desktop manager will reinitiate the activation like it does with an upgrade?

Default Ringtones and HTML

So, no problems with the ringtones (my brother is set as 'don't fear the reaper' by BOC and my mom is still Ozzy's 'crazy train' )

But I can't seem to get HTML on my e-mails. I have the 'Enable HTML email' checked yes as well as the download images automatically.

Any thoughts?

Also, off topic a bit, but is there a preferred internet browser that people like for the 8830?

Default Viigo

How is Viigo on .77? I had it on my 8830 while running .33 and it was a huge memory leak... If anyone is running it, let me know. Thanks...
