Using a BlackBerry 8700c running 4.2 Handheld software, 4.3 Desktop Manager. The user wants to transfer all of his messages to a new BlackBerry Curve. When running the "Advanced" backup on the 8700c, on ONLY the "Messages" database, the process gets about a quarter of the way through when "The data was not recognized on the device" error appears. No messages are backed up.

I've tried removing/replacing the battery, running the backup on 4.0 and 4.1 versions of the Desktop Manager, disabling wireless synch, all to no success.

I've heard that there is a limit on the database size -- that the backup process won't work if a database is too large. This BlackBerry has a messages database with 7038 messages for a total size of 6414.6K. Will the backup process choke on a database that size? The user insists on keeping messages forever, despite my well-argued protests.

Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

That should backup and restore...may take a while but it should work. I'm guessing there is something corrupted in there, like an attachment or something. I've had similar issues with saved messages with attachments.

And there's not really any way to identify that corrupted message(s), is there?

No....and with 7000+ messages it could take a while!
