Moved to the proper section.

Sure you can. Is the device broken and needs fixing?

Use the SEARCH feature and read through this section. See the yellow sticky at the top.

Good luck.

Sure you can, it makes your new 9700 a whole new phone! Much faster, better battery (in my case), better WiFi connectivity that actually works now! And the best browser ever!

Download the Operating System from the below link:

9700M_PBr6.0.0_rel1308_PL6.6.0.63_A6.0.0.358 - download

Make sure you create a backup before you perform the below!

Instructions For Installation:

1) Install the *.exe file you just downloaded.

2) Navigate to Computer >>> C: >>> Program Files >>> Common Files >>> Research in Motion >>> Apploader

3) Delete the file named vendor.xml

4) Connect your BlackBerry through the USB port

5) Run loader.exe

6) Follow the on-screen instructions and enjoy.

somethings dont quite work right with OS6 and the 9700 as I have discovered since going to 9780. The select is all messed up. Also when you click on new emails, there is a pause before they register as opened. If you quickly open it and move to another they dont register. There are lots of other little bugs here and there. Some apps crash and the final nail in the coffin was bb messenger vanished.

I have had none of the problems you mention. 9700 and OS6 beta (358).
Only had the 'no-cursor' in SMS. Easy workaround for it though. The increased OS footprint size has not been an issue either. So far, very happy with it. Too many positives than negatives for me to think about downgrading to OS5.

I installed the above OS6 last night onto my 9700. It seems much faster but I have some Quick Launch problems now: can't cut/paste into it, clicking "Set Permissions" is unrespopnsive. QL says no updates available.

Also lost a plazmic theme (Section 8) that I preferred using this past year. Desktop Manager says it's installed but it's a no show.

No cursor in SMS for me as well. Scrolling with the trackpad is fine.

This OS is an interesting change from the last five years of Pearl/Bold usage.

Heh. It wasn't until AFTER I installed it that I saw it was for the 9780. Oops. Que sera, sera.

Best.

A little update after modest use: well, it's wacky on my 9700 but I'm diggin' it for now. No System Menu in various apps, no paste, Quick Launch is limited, Viigo is a wash... but this is a very cool, highly tweaked, sleek OS. I'll enjoy using it for a while, even though it's not written for this BB. Nice surprise.

Best.

Almost everything you wrote is incorrect. Either you had a bad install, or you don't know how to use OS6. You should do a Javawipe and re-install.

<SMILE> Well, Steve, what I wrote is actually 100% correct as regards MY phone (9700). It's not compicated, figuring out how to use this OS.

But when I get time I'll do a wipe and a fresh install. OS6 is great, worth the effort.

Thanks for your input.

Best.

Steve, did a wipe, fresh OS6 install and OTA'd Quicklaunch. Same issues with pasting into QL, can't paste into Contacts. Viigo (still only at OS5 for BB), various issues. Both were rock solid on OS5.

Though there has been no change after the fresh install, thanks for your earlier suggestion. OS6 is great and I look forward to the eventual fixes.

Best.

Paste is in all of my menus...and I can paste into contacts...not sure why your's is having issues. I can do it on my 9700 and my 9780...

What isn't pasting into your contacts exactly? I can copy and past from any native app on my BB's...are you talking about an aftermarket APP that you can't copy from and paste to contacts?

As far as no "System menu" - what exactly are you referring to? I have the menu options in all of my native BB apps, and the ones that were installed NOT from RIM as well...

If the problem is from the other apps, it's not a RIM issue - but an aftermarket developer issue...

Yes, stevew, as I wrote above, it's mainly third party apps that are not working correctly on OS6, which of course makes sense as it's a beta. The pasting into contacts issue... I haven't repeated it and don't recall the details but as I don't paste from anything non-RIM, it was a native app quirk.

The RIM browser shuts down regularly, on pages I've read for a few years on Pearls and Bolds. <SMILE> That's annoying.

But I'm still sticking with OS6, looking forward to an official release.

Best.
