I checked the device software, and it says I have 5.0.0.509(Platform 5.2.0.47)! But on my phone under about, it says I still have 4.6.1.290 (Platform 4.2.0.124).

Why would it say that?

The Device Software in DM lists what devices software you have installed on your PC.

Why is it refusing to update? DTM detects a ton of updates, but when I get to the update screen it states there are no actions.

Is anything listed?
I wish I could copy and paste this:

Directory of: C:\users\Stephanie\appdata\local\virtualstore\prog ram files\common\research in motion\apploader

But I can't find this location on my computer

That looks to be your culprit.

Try this

Go to Start > Run and type cmd <press enter>
Type C: \ <press enter>
Type del /s vendor.xml <press enter>

then...

Go to Start > Run and type cmd <press enter>
Type C: \ <press enter>
Type dir /s vendor.xml <press enter>

Does it list anything now?

"Your BlackBerry device will be updated to include the following software:
BlackBerry 5.0.0 System Software
BlackBerry 5.0.0 Core Applications"

I am about five seconds away from crying from happiness, if I could send you flowers I would! I love you so much Jason! I knew it had something to do with vendor.xml even though I had deleted it because the way it was acting it was as if it was still there, but because I followed John Clarks instructions I thought it might possibly not be. And because I'm using Vista and it's "ease of use" has made it more difficult for me to find things, I was getting very frustrated. I saw so many threads where people just kinda gave up or never replied with updates I was worried. I'll be bookmarking this for future use!

Thanks again! I'll let you know how it goes but it looks good

This will definately help me with any future OS updates, and hopefully it will help others as well! The all my searches through old threads brought up no resolutions so hopefully someone in the same position will find this one as well I went to other sites and noticed people on CrackBerry were discouraging others from upgrading their OS stating 'they don't know what they are doing, and they will just make it worse'. I didn't really like that negative attitude of the members. I wanted to learn how to do this

Maybe you could add this onto John Clarks thread as a way of flushing out where the file is? I looked through the four pages and saw nothing like this, or in the other threads.

And thanks to the father of my children for getting Jay to tell me the answer

I saw that you posted in JC's thread. Maybe you could update your posts there with a link to this thread listing it as how you resolved your issue.

I believe that thread is a sticky and more people may look there and can come across it that way if need be.

Hello guys, i'm new to BlackBerry and this is my first software upgrade.

So far, it's not looking good.

I tried everything described on these and crackberry forums. I tried installing it with DM installed, without DM. When the DM is installed, everything regarding automatic updates is off. I deleted the vendor file and scanned for other vendor files (there were none). I pretty much tried everything.

And, EVERY time i start the Loader it just offers me to update my apps - like the new device software i previously installed doesn't exist.

My carrier doesn't have BlackBerries and doesn't offer BlackBerrs internet service. The phone is unlocked (probably with MFI multiloader - don't know for sure, i got it unlocked). The other day, i used that Mass Storage fix to get mass storage running. Could that, or the multiloader be the problem.

Also, since i don't have BIS, i can't even think about upgrading the OS with DM, right?

PS: I'm on Windows 7

Welcome to the forums.

What OS are you trying to upgrade to? What error are you getting. If you're trying to upgrade to OS 5.0, you cannot without a BlackBerry data plan.

I'm trying to upgrade to v5.0.0.860 (Multilanguage) for Bold 9000. I didn't know this about BB data plan, this is first i hear about it.

But, how does he "know" i don't have BIS if i don't even install the DM. I'm not getting any error, he just doesn't load the OS, he just let's me edit the applications.

Thank you for your help. I really love my BlackBerry, hell, i even fell in love with the name :D
It sounds so...hot :D

Your Blackberry needs BIS service attatched to it or it won't work, whether you have DTM installed or not. If you don't have the service from your provider, try doing it with someone else's sim in the phone who has BIS service.
