Default Excuses

Please Login to Remove!

Never before have I seen such a sorry set of excuses.
Posted to cut through the BS for the many who search:
BlackBerry will not sync to Outlook 2010.
The cryptic "message stores" error message should read: "Stop trying and maybe come back in 6 months to see if Research in Motion which is now stalled and stopped, actually gets back into motion and fixes this."
MS Office and BlackBerry slide toward mediocrity.
Bye

And there is still a myriad of apps that do not detect a messaging system if Outlook is installed. It's not a RIM only problem.

Thumbs down outlook 2010 suport

yes but only for the 32bit version - the new 64 bit version seems to be planned for 2011 (no indication on whether it will be January 1st or 31st December) - ridiculous!!! By that time we will have MSFT Outlook 2011 and BBY again playing catch up

here is the scary truth: from K17149 - BlackBerry technical Solution Center

"Currently, BlackBerry Desktop Manager 5.0.1 does not support Microsoft Outlook 2010 64-bit version for mailbox connectivity and synchronization of organizer data such as Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, and Memos. The next release of the BlackBerry Desktop Manager provides support for Microsoft Outlook 2010 32-bit version only. This release is targeted for August 2010. Support for Microsoft Outlook 2010 64-bit version will be available in 2011."

Have found a way around the Outlook 2010 synchronization problem for now. Export the Outlook contact file as an ASCII(CSV) file. Select this option in desktop manager as synch options. --it works perfectly.PS: Ensure the headings in the CSV file are the same as required by BB eg BB requires the word "Work Phone" for Business Phone. It took me a few minutes but at least I have my contacts.

That worked for me, you can map the headings in the Advanced options. A lot better than waiting until 2011 for the Outlook 2010 64bit fix from RIM.

Today my DM stated: Update available. Downloaded and installed Version 6 with no problem and now it syncs with OL2010. Works again like a charm. I'm happy.
Hope, it will help you, too.
Regards

How ridiculous this all is. A company like RIM being so behind - clinging on to 32 bit and not supporting 64 bit until 2011! Our whole company has been on Blackberry for years and we are now going to switch to iPhones. We bought two as a test and they work seamlessley and knocked Blackberry into a ****ed hat. The Calenders are much clearer the screen and browsing and everything is so much better. Only thing is battery life not as good.
We are saying good bye to Blackberry after years and years because of the arrogance of casually hiding their incompetence for months and finally letting us know that there will be a fix sometime in 2011!
Dont bother with Companionlink - it doesnt work for 64 bit just wastes a load more time. Blackberry are telling us 'Give up and buy an iPhone or wait till 2011'
I am selling my shares in RIM as well

Default Found A Temporary Fix

You can sync your blackberry with a program called companion link pro and you will still have to have the blackberry desktop manager software running at the same time. Companion link gives you a free 14 day trial so there is no money involved. I accomplished this running XP SP3, Desktop manager 5.0.1, and my blackberry curve 8530, although I'm sure Vista and 7 are supported. Companion link is simple and it hasn't let me down yet. Download, install, have desktop manager open and running with phone connected, Click on outlook setting, select all items you wish to sync. Click sync and do not do anything, i believe a message comes up that says "disconnect and sync with blackberry desktop software" just ignore or click ok, but do not unplug and leave alone from this point. On my second sync no messages came up and it was a very smooth process. This program is awesome and i believe it can act as a bbe with the help of a google account. I have seen this with a droid so far syncing calendar, contacts, notes, memos, with outlook all while out of the office at a tune of 40bucks......not bad Just thought I would help out I usually never post.

But never i heard about "2010 is not supported".
If there is an official statement, please provide a link or give a quote. But reading other posts I found several people having similar problems, but no statement about general compatibility.
If you have insight information, please share them with us.

RIM, like a lot of other software manufacturers, does not yet support Outlook 2010 64-bit. Blame MS for writting a program that does not allow 32-bit software to interact with it. Windows 7 and Office 2010 are the first desktop software that will bring 64-bit computing into the mainstream. They should have been better at interacting with 32-bit software. Office especially. Meanwhile, 64-bit Windows, 32-bit Office and DM6 work just fine.
