Got it all working, and so far so good. The fact that you can't unlock with the wheel sucks though.

1) in the message options > general options
2) i don't have opera mini installed, i just noticed the option was there. I don't know if it works...
oops someone already said this. I have upgraded to the chinese optus version, but i managed to get the dutch language pack back by copying all files from C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\8700-v4.2.1.66_P2.3.0.59 to 8700-v4.2.1.85_P2.3.0.67 without overwriting anything.

Agree about the ringtone volume. I've missed two calls already...I'll have to switch to a louder one. Not sure what the change in unlocking the device...mine works exactly the same: click the wheel once for the unlock menu and the first option is to unlock so yiu click again and you have the password screen in two clicks. I actually use the return/enter key twice and type in my password. Maybe because I have an IT policy on a BES? Not sure but it hasn't changed for me.

I seem to have a new problem with 4.2 on Rogers 8700r, wondering if anyone has come across it. We use a corporate BES on Lotus Notes.
On 4.1 and in the past, I have my email settings on the Blackberry to automatically hide Filed Messages. I use my inbox much like a tasklist, so as I get stuff done, I file emails into appropriate folders in Notes or on the Blackberry so that they vanish off the Inbox. Oddly, when I go to the Messages on the Blackberry, it shows all received messages by default. Even the ones that are filed. The icon even shows a folder which indicates it's filed. But this is with the hide filed messages feature on. If I turn it off, more messages show up of course.
This is puzzling me, I've checked all the other settings and I simply cannot figure this out. Am I missing something pretty basic that someone can point out?
Thanks in advance.

In Messages go Options -> General options and you'll see the options for his filed and hide sent about half way down.

I tried installing 4.2 on my 8700g last night but all I ended up with was a 4.2 version of the desktop software. Am I missing something? How do I upgrade the OS on my 8700g itself?

I think the instructions are on page 2 or 3 of this thread.
You have to download the device software separately from the desktop manager software.

Cannot copy or paste into browser text box
I am running the latest Chinese version of OS 4.2. Has anyone noticed that in the Blackberry and internet browser, when the cursor is in a text box and you click on the track wheel, no menu pops up. Thus, you cannot copy, select, paste, etc. text into the text box. Can anyone running this version of the OS verify that they have or don't have this issue? Thanks.

Thanks for verifying that. I just wanted to make sure I am not going crazy. Now, could someone running the non-Chinese version of OS 4.2 see if this problem exists in that version of the OS?

Yes, please...I'd hate to upgrade twice in a week, but with that, Tmo's I'm app not working, and the low volume ringtones, I would considerate it. Wish I knew when Tmo was coming out with theirs!

Rogers (Canada) has Desktop 42 and HH 41351
No need to go to that Venezuelan site to download the 42 software. Rogers has it.

I've downloaded it, but haven't had time to install it.

I went directly to Roger's website. Did the page come up when you clicked the link I sent earlier? If so, you have to choose the brand, and then the device.
