Chris: they all come as bes, my 8320 did out the box, but when I activated it on BlackBerry Internet Service it hid all the bes icons

I'm still in 2 minds about the £129.99 fee,
I can wait: and pay less, or pay it, and sell my curve and hope I get some of the ££ back.

Or.. Wait, sell the curve, if its less then the upgrade cost and pocket the difference.

Why don't you wait, get the Bold free, and sell the Curve as well, Maximum profit.

If you have the Bold from Orange it might be the same as the 8820 - Orange do not ship their Blackberries with BB Maps.

Can you run it though or have to use something else? I suppose Google Maps work?

With my 8820 I ran through the following procedure: http://www.blackberryforums.com/gps-...lackberry.html

I haven't done this with the Bold yet so I don't know if it work yet.

aaargghh!

I got my bold. Lovely. But there's a problem. Nothing to do with blackberry, everything to do with Orange. This may be a little off-topic, but it could be relevant to any readers who want to upgrade someone else's phone to a bold on Orange. Let me explain.

I have two phones on one bill, call them A and B. I use phone A, a blackberry curve which is 8 months into an 18 month contract. My wife uses phone B, a blackberry 8800 17 months into an 18 months contract. I'm the one who wants the Bold (my wife doesn't care about these things).

So I went to the orange shop and upgraded phone B from the 8800 to the Bold. My plan was to put my SIM into the Bold, and the new SIM (they insist on giving you a new SIM for some reason) into the 8800. BUT... I forgot that to use the 3G features in the bold, you need a 3G SIM. The girl in the shop said I'd need to phone customer services.

Which I did. But their intransigence is on full strengh here. Apparently, it is "Physically Impossible" to upgrade from a 2G sim to a 3G sim without upgrading. I tried various logical alternatives like "what if I buy a phone from somewhere else which is 3G and I want it to work properly with my 2G SIM - surely you'd send me a 3G SIM then?" and they said "no. Absolutely impossible".

APparently, the only thing I can do is to purchase a 3G SIM card from the likes of Carphone Warehouse or Phones4U and get them to put my orange account onto it.

My experience with getting a Bold from Orange was a complete nightmare! It took me 2 hours in the shop to finally get a Bold!! I ended up having to get a whole new contract (new phone number) and cancelling the old phone contract.

I'm going to give it one last try at a different orange store on the way home, before I admit defeat!

Drove to my local Orange store (I dislike going to that part of town as it is, but made an exception today!). Unfortunately Orange Business upgrades for stores has been down for most of the past couple of days, due to them upgrading the system, so the store wasn't able to process the upgrade and so couldn't let me take the handset. Consumer upgrades wouldn't do it for them either. So looks like I'll be waiting until Monday.

Why launch one of the most anticipated new handsets on a Saturday, particularly aimed at business users, right in the middle of the time that you're also upgrading your in store business upgrades computer system thus preventing business users like myself upgrading in store? This puts the launch into the same realms of the o2 iPhone 3G disaster.

My local store (Didcot, Oxfordshire) only had two units and i have one of them! Had to wait nearly two hours in the store while they tried link it with my new contract, seems if Orange have tried to rush it out to quickly, not properly on there systems yet.
Anyway i now have it and its AWSOME!!
