Default Weird sent items sync problem

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all,

Hope you're all having a nice weekend - and a somewhat less puzzling one than mine

I took the (probably stupid) step today of migrating to Exchange 2007 from 2003. Previously I had an SBS 2003 box with BES Express running on it and it was working beautifully. I migrated the environment to a brand new 2003 x64 Exchange 2007 box and the old SBS box was wiped and is now running BES standalone.

It seems to be talking to the Exchange server fine and virtually everything is synching as it should, except items I send using Outlook. Here's the deal:

1) If I send a message on my BB, it is reflected in sent items in Outlook immediately
2) If I send a message using OWA, it is reflected in sent items on my BB immediately
3) If I send a message using Outlook, it is NOT reflected in sent items on my BB for sometimes up to about an hour but it IS reflected in sent items on OWA immediately

Weird huh? Here is an excerpt of the mailbox sync log for a message sent via outlook which was received immediately (I sent it to myself and the incoming message synched immediately but the sent item synched 15 minutes later).

[30081] (02/09 22:33:22.658):{0x1260} {chris@x.com} Sending message to device, size=250, EntryId=3902, RefId=-1241667483, TransactionId=-944895825, Tag=309
[40279] (02/09 22:33:22.658):{0x1260} {chris@x.com} SubmitToRelaySendQ, Tag=309
[40000] (02/09 22:33:22.658):{0x123C} [BIPP] Send data, Tag=309
[40000] (02/09 22:33:25.533):{0x1238} [BIPP] Received status DELIVERED, Tag=309

Comparing this log with one where I sent a message to myself using webmail, I can see that sent items from webmail get caught by notification, whereas sent items from outlook get caught on rescan (which I am guessing is done periodically?).

Do any of you have an idea what I could do to get the outlook messages to notify? If I had hair, it would have all been pulled out today!!

Cheers,

Chris

The rescan usually occurs every 15-20 minutes. The only issue I know of that this sounds like effects all emails coming to the BB. It is a Windows Update that gets triggered and blocks the BES from being notified of new mail.

The security update is numbered 902400, if you go to your Add/remove Programs listing and click Show Updates you should see that one. I don't think this is your issue but you can rule it out by removing the update and then disabling and stopping the Distributed Transaction Cooridinator service and reboot the BES.

Also, what version of MAPI are you running on the BES? Is the Exchange 2003server still containing BES users?

You should be using the MAPI/CDO 1.2.1 client from Microsoft instead of the Exchange System Manager if you no longer have Exchange 2003 users on the BES.

Cool BES synch delayed with MS EXchange 2007

Hi, all
we've got the same problem with some of our corporate BB, whose users have been recently moved on a Exchange 2007 server.
Does anyone have a notice if it's a sort of bug of the BES server (we're running BES 4.1 sp4 ) or there are patches/hptfix from Microsoft to be installed?

For what it's worth, and apologies for resurrecting an old thread, but SP6 has totally sorted this issue out and sent items are syncing immediately rather than on the periodic rescans.

Hope it helps someone if they're having this problem!

EDIT: Also apologies gibson, I never thanked you for your input into this thread.
