Easiest way I found was this:

Open up your mail account showing your inbox. Pull down the screen from the top and hit "Select".

Check mark all the boxes next to your emails and then press the garbage can icon in the lower right of the screen. Not brilliant, but better than deleting things one at a time.

Thanks for the reply your advice was helpful however I uninstalled the account and tried again making sure I only included the last 3 days

However a delete all function would be nice

Your best option would be to delete from an e-mail client or webmail client.

At this time, there is no mass-deletion from the playbook I believe.

I have a small and only mildly helpful suggestion to the issue. I don't know if anyone else noticed, but if you take HAPPYTREE's suggestion one step further, it makes deletion a little better. Here's how:
  1. Pull down from the top and hit select
  2. THEN select an item to delete
  3. ***NOW*** hold that first item and select the item at the bottom of the page
  4. Delete.

So now you're selecting multiple items. I still don't thing you can select anything beyond what you can see on that screen, but it's slightly better than tapping each individual message.

I removed my email address, set it up again with only 3 days of email, and did the above without too much trouble. Now it's just maintenence I guess.

Seems that with IMAP it SHOULD sync and archive/remove messages when you do that on a desktop client, but I don't think it actually does. Pitty.

Good Luck!
