I have a 9000 for work and a 9700 for personal work, and the 9700 had no issues whilst the 9000 was in SOS. I couldnt figure it out either. I wanted to blame the network but why would my 9700 be ok on 3G when my 9000 was stuck on SOS.

Your symptoms matches mine 100% ! In fact, it is disconnecting only when I enter home. The only logical connect I can think of is the WiFi and the wireless home network; however, my WiFi is and has always been off.
It use to randomly work before after numerious Phone Off/Battery Remove trials, now that you mentioned the Alt+Shift+Del; it worked perfectly. Well, at least I got a temporary fix for the time being, I hope to continue the hunt until I found a permenant fix.
