I'm done with this stupid patch. I have given up trying to make the wireless push work .. it's obviously a POS!! .. I have crafted a document on how to manually install the patch via desktop or from the device and it's up to the users .. I have wasted 3 weeks of my life trying to get this working.

Updated our test group to 2.2, but the damn DST2007Query tool still reports "Awaiting Patch..." for users who seem to have it successfully installed acc to their handhelds. Uhmm... What was the point of this patch again? :P

I've cleared backup data and will wait and see... sigh...

I noticed this too, but it seems that message is not an issue any longer for new installs. We weren't scheduled to fully deploy the patch until today, and so far everything is reporting back correct that is new.

If you ever get through, they are just gonna say "use 2.2, then you won't have the issue" :->

We have "Awaiting Patch" and other errors on many virgin v 2.2 installs. Maybe v 3.0?

Yes indeed, I pushed out 2.2 to a virgin test group and it reports correctly! Fantastic! ... and about time. It also means I can now rely on the excellent, free BoxTone GUI to report back correctly, so no more query tool. Nice.

I'm in the middle of pushing out to my first production group. If that goes smoothly, I'll be a very happy camper. I've had about enough of this 2007 DST change thing and can't wait to put a fork in it. Vendors had almost 2 years to address the Energy Policy Act of 2005, and it's really frustrating how it's needlessly come down to the wire. If some companies like RedHat could address this in 2005, why did other companies like Microsoft (and MS partners like RIM who had to wait on Microsoft) wait so darn long? And unlike Y2K, we IT folks don't get any extra respect for our deadline efforts.

Ok, good luck to all!

OMG yes. Rolled DST patch to a person recently. After their device updated successfully, they had the nerve to complain to me, " Why didn't you do it sooner than now? This was put in place in 2005. You should have been more proactive and not waited to the last minute."

Must. Control. Fist. Of. Death.

IMHO this is worse than Y2K. Just my opinion though.

Had the same convo with our desktop guys today. They were comparing and I pointed out how little Y2K actually made us do compared to this crap, just made us worry and treble-check. I honestly don't remember anything taking so much of my time ever in IT, ever!

Y2K was definitely was easier than this...

As an aside, the IT community got going about two weeks ago on this I think...

Agreed about the Y2K comparison. One of our users mentioned it to me yesterday and I was like.. this has been more tedious than Y2K, MUCH more tedious.

Yup, it's all MS's fault IMHO. They have spent 6 months yelling at me about DST and started writing the CDO in January, joy

You guys either have bad memories or really were lucky enough to have little to do with Y2K.

There was a lot for us to fix here for Y2K. The difference is that with the except of a few things, we had years to work on them.

I chuckle when I hear some non-IT people say that Y2K was all FUD... While I agree that some people did over-blow it a bit, people just don't know what could have happened if we hadn't addressed the problems.

To me this is nothing compared to Y2K... for one my bosses aren't given out bonuses over it. hehe

Well, my first production group pushed out with mixed results. The small group consisted of 4 users who I knew wouldn't whine: one 8700, two 7230s, one 7250. The 8700 & 7250 query as patched successfully, however the two 7230s do not. Plus, now four of our BBs now query as unsupported versions when they didn't before. Looks like 2.2 is still whack.

2.2 seems to be working well. on one server I have 80 per cent of the user who have received and applied the patch. DST query is reporting about 4 errors.(These are mainly with older devices 7230s - upgraded from 3.x firmware)

Most of the error I have encountered are of two types:

I have had a few helper not installed errors but most of these error stem from the users not having their devices turned. There is an amazing correlation between high pending messages count and the helper not being installed.

Also another error source I have found(not related to the DST Patch). Apparently our HD hasn't been removing terminated user's BB. Therefore I was trying to push to deactivated device.

Looks like they're releasing 2.3 and a new query tool (!) later today. Sigh. Guess I'll try that on Monday. If that doesn't do the trick, I'm done. I have too many other projects to spend any more time on this crap. Anyhow, see you in the " DST 2007 Patch Manager Version 2.3" thread... ;)
