Please Login to Remove!

just slew up with your trackball and it goes to the profiles icon in the top left of the screen...no need to have the actual icon in your bottom dock too

Verizon is going to call me tmrw after they have a chat with rim since rim was so busy because of the bbm outage (Verizon didn't even know about it)...

After doing some QA which I do for a living i found the following:

if you set your vibrate to custom, it will still sound in the holster. However, if you just leave it as vibrate only and not make it customizable, it will work the way it's supposed to meaning NOT make a noise when in the holster. Lame right? I tested this on my Dad's storm and I didn't experience the same behavior. When i talk to Verizon i am going ot tell them this and will tell the blackberry rep as well that this is a bug and needs to get fixed. Also i am going to complain about the 9 minutes it takes to boot my damn phone!

And finally, I am going to have rim send me a paycheck ;) LOL

Hopefully this helps ppl out.
This is a great find and I am calling RIM on Monday to close my case. I will give proper credit and tell them to make sure they read BBForums for all their tech support needs.

I called RIM and they repro'd the issue. They said try a security wipe and test that out first. I will call them again and tell them that after ther security wipe, the same crap happens. Wonder if they don't want to recognize it as a bug or maybe they just want me to test this.

Default What about...

is there a fix for "Vibrate Only" not vibrating for messages that you do not want to be notified for yet?

For examples, in my "Normal" profile, I have it set to not do anything for emails, calendar events, and tasks. In Vibrate only, it still vibrates!

I believe you will need to adjust it in the Vibrate Only profile setting. I have mine set to only alert me on one email account, text messages and phone calls. It works perfectly for me.

Default maybe you can clarify

Before I go through all of the profiles again, maybe you can help me. When I got the phone, I went into each individual profile and set the ringers/LED, etc. That didn't work well. Then I read in this thread that if you set the NORMAL profile, Medium and Loud work based off of that. Is that true? Is Vibrate Only completely seperate?

Please help! I don't want to go through all of this settings again!!

That is correct. Set everything you want in Normal. Then, Loud, Medium, Vibrate, etc. work from those settings.

I consider it a bug that a message group you have set to do nothing in Normal then vibrates in the vibrate profile.

The work around for this is a Custom Profile. Make a custom profile for your vibrate settings. These settings are customizable like the old OS versions.

Lastly, custom contacts can throw you for a loop as well. They don't make a sound alert in the holster unless you change the vibrate setting to Custom and then set In/Out of Holster to "In/Out". Stupid that the ring setting is in vibrate settings, but at least it works.

Wink

I edited my profiles the first day with-out issue. You may want to have them reload the OS and see what comes of it.

Truly Loving my Tour here.

He can't edit his either...there's just ONE SET of settings for ALL profiles. In order to get things working properly the way I want them too, I've had to set up a custom profile for each one of my preferences. Quite annoying, but at least there's a "workaround."

I talked with RIM again and we went and basically wiped my entire phone and then reinstalled the software. Of course, same crap happened and i had to reload all my apps which was a pain. They are going to move this ticket to the escalation team or something and they will get back to me. For now, my ticket is closed.

Some good things that came from the wipe:
Boot time is a bit faster...8 minutes versus 9 and I have a bit more memory now...118mb vs 108...wonder what the extra 10 mbs was?

What frustrates me about the new profile system is that if you update your OS, or reload, it appears your changes to the 'Normal' profile are not backed up. When you restore, you're back to square one. If there is something I'm missing, I'd love to hear it. I finally created a custom profile, which hopefully will be backed up and will be restorable if I update OS down the road. It's just unfortunate that on what is a very intuitive device, the profiles have become completely un-intuitive - and if you figure it out, you'd durned well better remember exactly what you did, because eventually you're going to get to do it all over again.
