If you go to the Blackberry site and look at accessories for the 9650, it shows the DX-1. These are all the phones it lists for that battery:
BlackBerry® Curve™ 8900
BlackBerry® Storm™ 9500
BlackBerry® Storm2™ 9520
BlackBerry® Storm™ 9530
BlackBerry® Storm2™ 9550
BlackBerry® Tour™ 9630
BlackBerry® Bold™ 9650

Great, since I have extra batteries for my Tour 9630. Won't lose out that way. Thanks.

Not really impressed, but not really disappointed.

Definitely a better product at launch than the 9530 or 9630 but upgrading from the 9630 it's not really a big deal. Boot time is about 1/2 of what it was on the 9630, so that's nice.

The 9650 seems quite a bit heavier than the 9630. The additional memory seems good, although the device is still a *little* laggy (hope that works itself out as the OS settles in). Not sure what I'm going to do - I'll give it a week or so and decide if it's worth keeping or if I'm going to move back to the 9630.

I'm still trying to figure out if there is any point in using WiFi. Without UMA it seems useless to me.

For people who work in areas where Cell signal does not penetrate but have a good Wireless infrastructure, sure you can't place class but your connection to BIS is still there, allowing BBM, Email, Browser, Third Party Apps. Your not entirely left in the dark.

Is anyone getting the wifi on the 9650 to do anything? The indicator in Manage Connections shows as a white dash, and the dashboard indicator shows a greyed out wifi indicator. It gets an address from the AP, but can't seem to use it.

Are you a BES user? If so, your administrator may have using WiFi blocked.

To echo your comment. As an example, my verizon network at home is awful but my ATT wireless router works excellent to pick up the wifi. The thick wall office buildings dont lend themselves to the wifi the way I like.

Default Definitely have some problems...

I upgraded from a VERY tired Curve 8330. The VZW Bold is definitely an improvement, but I do have some complaints:
  • Long boot time
  • Weaker cell signal than 8330 in same locations
  • Glitchy track pad - over/under-sensitivity
  • Gmail error - had to delete and reinstall email account (losing all my filters)
  • Browser - Some webpages can't format in native browser; need firefox emulation
  • BING monopoly - I know its a Microsoft - RIM deal, but it sucks.

What OS version was released with the VZW 9650? I see version .699 is available/posted now. Perhaps .699 or a later OS release will improve the signal? I've seen this complaint listed by a few people on other websites as well and it's the only thing holding me back from upgrading off of my 8330. Is the signal degradation slight or very noticeable (now many bars or dB's difference)? Just curious.

It came with OS .699 installed. I would say its <5 to 10+ dBm of signal worse than my 8330. I haven't really paid attention to the number of bars difference. I heard the Tour had this problem initially and was fixed with an update? My 8330 was getting buggy, so I had to jump.

I've seen a few of your issues, and I am hoping the upcoming VZW OTA update will fix most of them.

The OTA update should be available sometime today. No definite time however.

Problem solved. Reconfigured router to use a specific channel instead of auto. Apparently the BB can't stay connected with the router if the channel keeps changing.

Wow. Signal strenght *really* sucks on the 9650.

I've dropped more calls this week than I have in the past 7+ years as a VZW customer.

This is the third botched BB release in row from VZW (9530, 9630 & 9560).

When are these clowns going to get something right. If I wanted to drop 2-3 calls a day, I'd switch to ATT.

Edit: Just got off the phone with my VZW biz account rep & his enterprise data guy, and both denied that an OS update would be released tonight (or anytime in the immediate future) so if some folks are holding their breath, I wouldn't recommend it.

Too bad the OS update has been released, and I have already installed it OTA... I might just believe you.

I actually had the OS installed before your edit at 6:30..

There is a slight improvement with this OS, but I still believe my signal was better with my 8330.. However I live with 1 bar less.

It may be better with your 8330. However, this wifi is pretty special

Wi-Fi really does make this a keeper. And I'm sure after another OS update the radio issue will be resolved.. My device will jump from 1 bar to 5 throughout the day.

Wi-Fi keeps the data flowing, and I use a lot more data then voice so I can survive.

It's what I was told. Obviously wrong as I see it as an OTA update and it's on the smithmicro site.

Updating now. Hope this helps.
