Default In-place upgrade 3.6 to 4.0 goes wrong

Has anyone experienced this? When doing an in-place upgrade from 3.6 to 4.0 on a Windows 2003 SP1, ESM 2003 platform, has anyone ever had this to fail and have to roll back? If so what were the steps involved.

Make first a backup of your BES+Configuration database. Look in the 4 documentation if you meet all the prerequisites. Maybe you need first to a higher Service Pack on 3.6!
Then upgrade to 4 and install the latest Service Pack and Hotfix.

yes it failed for me when I first tried it, I didn't set the BES up originally so it was a bit all over the place. Despite the fact we are max 25 users the original configuration had the EU db on a SQL server box, whereas now I believe in just chucking MSDE on the BES and leaving it there. Our rollback was severe - format the HD, re-install w2K3s add to domain, patch etc etc, then re-install 3.6 and the SP's and manually re-add the users. Bit of a pain but as I only had 10 users and it wasn't (then) mission critical, I could get away with it.

8 months later we went for it again, and as the installation was much cleaner it went like a dream. I'd backup everything first (especially EU dbase) and if you have the tools to take a server snapshot that might be a good idea in-case you need to rollback.

cheers
