I use a 88xx series OEM leather holster for my 9700. The 9700 w/ OEM silicone cover fits perfectly inside of it. I used the same 88xx holster for my 8320 w/ OEM silicone cover.

I'm not a fan of the 9700 holster. It's too bulky and stiff compared to my 88xx one.

that looks like it's JUST a pocket. Not a holster. And besides if it was made expressly for the 9700, wouldn't it say it protects the "trackpad" and not the "trackball"?

I too use the case for the 8800. It works great with a skin on the 9700.

Here is a link for a good source for Blackberry cases and other accessories.

The magnets are to put the phone in standby mode.

Same here... I use it whenever I need to carry my phone (lots of time I will just leave the phone on my table). I don't always leave the phone in the holster all the time because there are some programs (like GoogleSync) that doesn't like being on "Standby" or "Lock" and won't work properly while in the holster.

Originally when I got the 9700 I missed the stock holster I had for my 8310, which was softer and easier to handle. But after using it for around a month now I think the 9700 holster is great. The only thing I miss is being able to charge the phone while completely seated in the holster, which you can't do because it covers a bit of the port.

I thought the stock holster was too bulky and I did not like the fact you can't charge when the BB is in the holster. I am using the one I had with my 8310. It is soft, fits well, sharp looking and I can charge in it.

Same, i went from 8320 to 9700. Didn't like the holster to begin with. But it grew on me, and the 9700 holster 'does' let you charge it while completely seated. It is fabric elastic on the sides and leaves plenty of space for usb port and headset.

Howard; maybe your are putting the top part of your 9700 in the holster first? It is meant to go bottom first so you can see the light at the top.
Or RIM just decided to change their holster design at some point

I think the stock 9700 holster is great and I use it all the time.

Having had 2 8300 series BBs before I had plenty of clips, holsters, and pockets left over. Tried the plastic belt clip that att used to sell as OEM, and while it held my new 9700, it did not fit properly.

My wife also uses 9700, but carries her bb either in the purse or her pocket, so the original 9700 holster was of no use for her. We tried the 8310 OEM pocket, and if fits perfectly and is exactly what she wanted. This is the item:

I also use my old 88xx holster. It's broke in from the 8900 I used in it so I can remove my bold with ease. I also had modified the holster with an extra neodymium magnet in the clip that's strong enough to put the Bold asleep in any position.

I like the 9700 holster but I do miss the 9000 one. That one actually takes in the whole phone. The fact that the tip of the head of the phone stands out and asks to be scratched does annoy me a bit. I assume it would be because of the speaker but the 9000 one covered all sides and just had a groove cut out for the speaker to remain open.

I use the 9700 holster. my only gripe it that you cant use a skin on the phone at the same time...streches....but if you have a clear film case all over your phone, it works perfectly. i have one, but the only problem is if it gets warm, the battery door slips off as you pull it out of the holster, the plastic wont slide well. the black "leatherette" it starting to peel, but thats just from rubbing on my seatbelt i think. the clip is strong, i went through a few from my pearl, but not on this. but its a awesome holster.

I tried fitting my 9700 into an 8900 holster... Lots of people say theirs fit. I thought it would too because the two phones are the exact dimension.

However, it would not fit!! I ordered one of these...
