I have Yahoo Messenger, BB Messenger and Google Talk on my 8703e but I
hardly ever use them. Nevertheless, someone sent me a request to add me to their contact list on BB Messenger, which I accepted. I also sent them a
request to add me to their list. From that point on it seems, I have an icon
in the upper left hand corner of my screen which looks like a blue number
one, with a yellow baloon next to it...and I presume that there is a message
somewhere for me. However, try as I may, all 3 of my applications show no
message at all. Now, I have an additional icon consisting of what appears to be "H-T" next to it, and I have no idea what that means.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to get rid of those icons. I do
not understand why they are there when I cannot find a message for me
anywhere.

Open a conversation with all the contacts in your messaging programs. That should clear the balloon.

Hmm, the description of the second icon isn't helping... The first is definitely BBM.

Have you tried doing a reset/reboot? Sometimes, and I'm not saying this is the case, icons stay on for whatever reason, and a reboot helps put everything back in its place.

Sould be a BBMessanger message.... Have you checked the message application?????

The 2nd might be BT (Bluetooth) is it turned on???

Thanks for everyone's help...by deleting BB Messenger I was finally able to get rid of that baloon. I'm going to re-install the application here in a few minutes. As for the "H-T" icon, I had inadvertently turned on the Hearing Aid Mode...so if you ever see that icon, you will know what it is. ;o)

Anyone know what this 'Hearing Aid Compatibility Mode' does?

The answer 'makes your BB work with a hearing aid' doesn't count!
