Default Turn off dialing tones?

Please Login to Remove!

How do I turn off the damned annoying tones when I'm dialing a number? The sound is coming through the speakerphone (which I can't turn off outside of a call), and its bad when dialing and trying to be descrete. RIM did a great job of not mentioning this in the manuals.

Thanks

The answer is, you can't. Sorry. I believe they go away if you have a headset plugged in.

Go to screen/keyboard under settings and turn off key tone.

That won't get rid of the dialing tones. Only the keypad tones when typing.

Excuse me, you're right, I stopped noticing that tone a while ago. I had to go back and check. Haha!

And you would do that exactly how?

While in the phone application, using the scroll wheel takes your cursor out of the dialing field and scrolls through your call history. I can find no way to adjust the volume while in the phone application unless there's already a call in progress.

Type the number in a note or the address book or wherever and dial from it silently.

Default dialing tones

This is a huge miss by RIM development. One of the pleasures of the blackberry is its "business demeanor" and low profile. People that own blackberries don't want fancy wallpapers, flashy ringers that play 50 cent, etc (of course that speaks for most of the users I believe, not all). I want to dial a number without everyone in the restaurant, plane, airport, office... knowing that I'm dialing a number, dammit.

Its a cool thing these days for tv actors to dial out on their cell phones with an audible tone... MOMMY LOOK, IT SOUNDS LIKE AN OLD TONE DIAL PHONE WHERE YOU CAN ACTUALLY HEAR WHAT I'M DIALING, ITS RETRO AND VERY COOL AND TRENDY. BB jumped right on that wagon. Pffftt.

Oh yeah, the wife gets nosey. Please tell me the 8800 will ship with an option to turn that crap off.

No BlackBerrys have done it before. No reason to believe the 8800 will be different.

It seems to be a very personal issue. Most people don't even notice it...

It's never bothered me. I mean, my speaking voice isn't any quieter than the DTMF tones that the Blackberry produces so I don't see what the fuss over "discreetness" is... Actually, the tones are really low on my 8700c. I guess I also mostly dial from my address book. In any case, I guess this should be an option to disable.

Have any of you bothered to email [email address]?

I have my keytone set to off. There are no dialing tones, only barely audible keypunch tones.

So I honestly don't understand the problem. Here on 8700g, the key tone rate is so low, it is hard to hear. When I dial a self-dialed number (not from address book, but one I key in) there is no DTMF tone when dialing, only when I key the # in, and I guess I have that sounds set so low it is barely audible, certainly low enough that no one in a restaurant, plane, airport, or office would hear, except if they are sitting in your lap... and well, then, who would want to be on the phone anyway?

Not a biggie and stopped noticing it after a while. But still a nice little function considering other phones have had the ability forever. Don't even get me started on this whole automatic time zone change issue...
