Unhappy New Bold - 'hanging' internet downloads

Please Login to Remove!

Hey guys,

I am a sys. admin here for a SME company - we have about 15 or so devices and in my time i've seen and used quite a few blackberry models over the years.

I got a user (who happens to be my girlfriend!) the new BB Bold (OS 4.6.0.134 on o2, UK) and I think there is an issue with the internet browsing.

Basically, it will download a page, get to say '6k of 8k' and then 'hang' almost indefinitely. I've seen this happen over GPRS (we are in a bad area) but also 2 different office and home Wi-Fi spots ... with WiFi the initial burst of download is (obviously) very quick, but then it (sometimes) 'hangs' again.

It's not all the time ... it's a bit erratic but it's happening at an unacceptable amount of time - say 80% ... sometimes a rekick help for a while.

I've ran my own 8800 using os4.5, next to her Bold in exactly the same location, to the same sites and mine will download the sites fine everytime. Hers will fail more often than not.

Is anyone else experiencing this ? - like I say, I've had a LOT of BB devices before and I've never seen a poor/erratic browser performance like this - I *know* it's not right. I've seen 'slow' (GRPS) or 'that site will never work because it's not mobile friendly' etc but not this erratic ...

Running our own Small Business BES Exchange which I have access to (4.1.6.10)

Thanks,

Spencer Steel

Have you tried removing the battery and putting it back in and trying again. That can fix some problems sometimes. Other option is to update the phones software.

Of all the obvious things, I haven't actually tried a battery drop out yet ... I was thinking of a firmware refresh, but sadly the OS isn't available in the O2 site yet ... getting through to them is hellish at the moment ... i'll post back if/when I resolve

Thanks for reply

You can use the software that is in the sticky at the top of the 9000 forum. Thats what I did. O2 are slow at releasing updates for phones.

*Finally* got around to updating the 9000 to the lastest OS ... still showing a lot of the same problems - 'hanging' whilst looking for sites - very random. I'm beginning to think it's a BES problem (DNS) but I can't work it out as everyone elses seems OK.

Very annoying - should "just work" really ...

Go into options in the browser and turn off JavaScript. I remember reading reports of this causing very slow browsing. I still have mine off and am not sure if the recent firmware upgrades have fixed it (I'm on 162).

Have you tried Opera Mini? I can't seem to find a specific Bold version though.
