The ironic thing for me is, when I called and supposedly moved up the chain of command to a supposed top level Blackberry technical support person that "Knows" a lot about the Storm; I was told by this person they have never heard about this issue let alone RIM sending them devices with updated silicon bumpers.
Then they proceed to tell me that even if she sends out a replacement device that if it is true RIM sent Verizon updated devices Feb 10 that the chance is low i would get a new/updated device because Verizon sent no units back and that there is no way they have moved through their inventory enough.

I will wait a couple days and call again, go through the explaining, and hopefully have a different outcome. It always amazes me with how customer service/technical support can vary so widely with just a little luck by getting someone who cares.

Mine arrived yesterday. Has the new 3 digit numbers in the battery well.

I was having some sporadic issues; albeit minor... with the responsiveness of the screen, did a wipe, reinstalled the (official .320) o.s. and the issues were still present. (I then reinstalled .451)

I told the 'high level' tech support about it and they placed me on hold for about 4 mins while she 'researched some options'. She came back on and informed me about the replacement device (didn't specifically mention the silicon bumpers.. just said a different mode of assembly) and sent one out; FedEx second day.

I wish I could report my Storm 1 as a defective Storm 2 and get a "updated" Storm 2...

I actually am having hardware issues with my Storm1 and called Verizon. They said that the phone needs to be replaced. I asked for the Storm2 and they would not do it. They said it had to be a Storm1. I explained that the Strorm1 is now obsolete and that I have been a loyal customer for over 15 years and I spend $190.00 with Verizon to no avail. I then told them that when my contract expires....I will be leaving Verizon. Still to no avail. I don't get Verzion at all!

I can't imagine anyone wanting to by the Storm 1. Why get old when there is a newer and better model. I wouldn't even know where to get a used Storm 2. How can you insure a phone that you didn't buy with Verizon?

Just got off the phone with Verizon and they are sending me a Storm 2. The only problem is that the battery covery doesn't have the sliders like the Storm 1...so my cover won't stay on unless I leave it in a silicone case, which I do all the time anyway. Does anyone know where to get a Storm 2 battery cover real cheap?

Thanks in advance!

Not sure what your definition of cheap is...I found this in about a minute with a google search.

BlackBerry Storm2 9520/9550 OEM battery cover - Type 2 - Cellular Nationwide Network - Cellular

I am sure there are additional out there. $18 seems cheap enough for a $180 handset. And you will be MUCH happier with your new S2. It is a world of difference.

Good luck

How did you manage to get a Storm 2 replacement for a Storm 1?

I am having problems with my Storm 1 losing memory real quickly. I was on the phone the other night with Verizon and they said my phone had to be replaced. I asked for a Storm 2 and they said no. I went back and forth with them and still the answer was no. I had to call today about something else and I got a different person and I explained that my bill is $190.00 a month with 4 phones and I have been loyal to Verizon for over 15 years and she agreed! It has already been shipped. The only problem is the battery cover. I should have it by Wednesday!

Rather than deal with Verizon and their lack of common sense customer service, I plan to drop them and elect a carrier who cares for about half the price.

I read the article SCASSEL posted in the link above- thank you. But i am interested to hear from people on this forum that have replaced their S2 for the new one that supposedly has been fixed. Does it feel/work any better?

I bought a used Storm on Craigslist I don't know if there was a flaw in the system. I had insurance on all of the phones that I had and it just carried over to the phone that I bought used.

I got my new one and it works much better. Now this could be because my other one was faulty but it is much more responsive and the bottom left button issue is now gone so I think it's worth it.

Well mine is on it's way. Verizon is now acknowledging (at least to me) that RIM had them ship back their inventory so RIM could replace it with corrected devices.
