Question Just activated BES on my Bold 9700- A little worried

Please Login to Remove!

I just got a new job and requested to receive my work emails on my personal blackberry. I was advised i had to use the Blackberry Enterprise Server, which i had never used before. I activated this feature on my phone and started receiving emails immediately- no problem there.
About a week ago, i googled something on my phone that i had done countless times before, and clicked on a weblink that the google search provided. (something i definitely would not google on a work server, and a website i definitely would not visit on a work server)
To my surprise (and horror), i was shocked when the name of my new company popped up in my mobile web browser and said "Access Denied".
I did not have a clue that what i viewed on my personal phone would be actually sent to my work server. I assumed the BES server was only for emailing.

Is it likely that my company will be able to see what i googled, and see the website i clicked to go to? The web page itself never loaded because i got the access denied page instead.

I immediately cleared my phone cache/browsing history, but i don't know if that would help at all.

I just got this job, so that is why i am a little worried.

Any feedback would be great

Welcome to the world of corporate control. The BES places a policy on the BB called IT Policy. This allows your company to control all functions used and even restrict access to the browser. Some companies even monitor personal emails if they go via the BES. Your best option now is to ask for the policies and restrictions used on the blackberries your company supports. To avoid this restriction I have my own blackberry and only use the corporate BB for work.

Welcome to the Forums.

When you're on BES, web surfing on the BlackBerry Browser goes through the company network. Use the T-Mobile browser, that will go directly to Internet.

Here is something else you should note from our FAQ: BES Users FAQ - BlackBerryFAQ

and from Port3101.org: What does BES see; what can be tracked/logged? - Port3101.org : Your BES Connection

I would never activate my personal device on my employer's BES.

Neither would I. If the company wants me to have their email when I am mobile, they can provide the device to do so.

No. Unless you have an extremely large IT budget, IT people don't have time to sift through who has and who hasn't gotten blocked. They put up the protection and hope for the best.

We look for patterns. When I look at web filter reports, I look at the top 3-5 categories used and blocked. I also look at the top 3-5 users for both usage and blocks. A one-of would not even appear on my radar.
