I recently picked up a second hand Blackberry Bold 9000 to replace my nearly worn out 8330. Everything works A-OK except for sounds. I've set the Profile to Loud and while it vibrates to inform me of incoming calls or messages it plays no ring tones. If I play a music file it's very quiet and I can only hear it by holding the phone to my ear.

I've updated and reinstalled the software on the phone and my pc but can't find a way of making any ring tones audible...

Am I overlooking or missing something? I've tried setup, settings, options, etc...

I just experienced the exact same problem. It started this morning and I could feel it vibrate but the sounds were so quite that I missed a lot of my messages. Turns out this is a common problem with the 9000. To fix it, you'll need to take the back cover off, remove the batter and sim card. Next take out the 6 tech screws and remove the plastic piece. Flip it over and there you'll find the speaker, all you need to do is clean the two contacts, and very gently push the two contacts up, this way they'll make a better connection with the mail board. Put it all back together and you should be good to go. Worked like a charm for me.
