i've never had a reception issue with my 9700. I can't duplicate the "death grip" loss of signal either. Actually I tried all my phones and have been unable to duplicate Mr. Job's claim...9700, 9000, 8310. I think it'd be more suited to concentrate on one's own product line rather than trying to justify issues by bashing others.

I can't grip it the way steve jobs says it either. All in all I've decided that apple is just pathetic and I won't be purchasing any of their products. When the competition puts others down in order gain acceptance it shows that they lack class.

Can someone tell me how to make my Bold 9700 loss several bars of the signal like Mr. Jobs did? I tries many times but I think I was not lucky enough or I did not have 100 mil of $ to setup a testing room like Apple did.

Anyway, the way Mr. SJ raised the problem and explained the issues by comparing with other competitors (RIM, SAMSUNG, ...) was unacceptable and completely unfair. It is a dirty way

I've gotten poor reception due to ATT's poor network coverage, especially inside my apartment. I'm normally forced to stand by a door or window to get any coverage at all. I decided to see if I could influence my reception by holding my BB 9700 a few different ways, as well as switching between 2G vs. 2G AND 3G settings.

For my BB, holding the phone in my palm definitely reduces the bars from 3-4 down to 0-1 bars. Holding it with 1 finger on each side, or 1 finger on top and bottom, yields 3-4 bars.

I actually not long ago opened a case with ATT to tell them that my reception had gotten unusually poor and started getting way more dropped calls. But now I realize that I can actually influence my reception, simply by the way I hold the phone.

I'm convinced this is not simply an iPhone 4 problem, and Jobs actually has uncovered the industrywide issue that many of us been living with faulty antenna design ever since the visible antenna physically disappeared.

Wirelessly posted (bold 9000)

I say its a att issue more than anything. My area did not have 3g. I went on vacation for 2 weeks in 3g areas. Had no problems the whole time. Came home and my are now has 3g. I was happy but I now see the issues iphone has. Go from full to half while sitting on the table not even holding the phone. Love the phone can't complain about it! It has to be the service!

Wirelessly posted

The hand affecting signal strength thing with the 9700 (for me) ONLY HAPPENS when the phone is teetering on losing signal, maybe 1 or 2 bars. If I have mid to full signal, hand position makes no difference

It really wouldn't work well shoved up there - unless maybe you were connected via Bluetooth.

This is what I don't get about Apple. They should have really looked at the competition devices to see what problems they have and build a better device, there is simply not excuse why the iPhone 4 has the problems that it does with its reception.

I bought my BOLD 9700 today and I can hold it up to my ear and not have the signal cut out, so I don't know where Jobs or this other site gets there there info from?

I just upgraded to the 9700 last week and couldn't be happier with it. I work in the DC metro and Baltimore area and have yet to drop a call or loose service (unless in an underground parking garage) I do suffer from bad service in the living room of my house LOL. 3G service everywhere except my living room. Weird.
