All of which I read so far talks about pushing 3rd party apps to the handheld wirelessly but what about handheld software upgrades? Can this be done and is it the same procedure?

What about updating an application? I overwrote the alx and cod files, and ran loader /index, it recreated the files. It's been over 4 hours and it hasn't updated.

I shouldn't have to create a new software configuration should I?

k i am very much a newbie to this push technology and was glad to have found this thread before my head exploded. Still have a couple questions though..

does the bes need to be set as a push server in MDS for these to work?

I keep getting Configuration Status: Handheld state invalid when i try to push down an application.

Default App Push

So, from what I have seen here you do not need .jad or .jar files to push from BES. I just picked up the responsibilty of the BES and now I am trying to figure out how to push things to my device. I have the .alx and .cod files in the right place, the loader detected them, I setup the software configuration with no issue and the set the application policy to required. Everything looked like it was working. I assigned the application policy to my handheld (7250) and waited. My handheld locked up for a bit then all the icons on the home screen shuffled around then went back to normal. I'm think yes, this is going to work. I don't see anything on the screen though. I'm trying to push a game by the way. I let it sit for 4 hours, just in case, but nothing. There isn't even anything in the applications. Is there somehtings that I am doing. Where can I check logs to see if it even made it to my device?

Thanks in advance.

If you have the 8100, you will need to install the handheld software on each BES. From my understanding, the 8100 is too new for the BES to understand how to push apps to it. That's what I had to do to push the Enterprise Messenger for Sametime to 8100 devices.

You can go to the link below for the updates

Thanks all for the info.

My issues is that i pushed the DST2007 patch to two devices. One is 8100 Perl and the other one is 6280 with v4.0.0.219 firmware. Now for the Perl is shows that the software is up to date but for the 6280 under Application Status it shows Install required. I'm assuming that eventually it will go and update 6280. Its been around 5 hours now. Its there like a message on the device that you have to answer to yes or something?

thank you

Quck question on APP push. A while back when we setup an app push for a wireless keyboard, we found that we had to install the 8700 model firmware for 8700 devices, then it pushed out.

My question is, what happens if the model software on the server is older than the handheld, what happens?

Default What is the best way to manage applications and members

Hello,

I am new to the application push. I have read the whole thread on this forum and it seems that I have understood it because I get my applications installed over the air.

The following is is not so clear to me.
- As a systems manager I always want to know who has which application. Where can I found such information on the BES server.
- I want to creat an application and put it on every blackBerry that is on the BES. Do I have to add every user to thet configuration or is there some way to have a configuration for everybody?
- When someone has multiple applications and I want to get rid of one, the manual says to go to the user - Device Management - Assign Software Configuration and chose <none>.. If that is the way I would probably lose all the applications I am a member of, of not?

Another thing:
- Can you make an application object and check the checkbox in front of the 8700 device software and for that application to only have it installed om 8700 devices, or is that not the purpose of that list of device software?

I want to get rid of the yahoo and google talk application. (They somehow appear on my Blackberry, don't know why). Should I download that software and create an application of it and than disallow it in the policy to get rid of thsi application on all devices

Kind regards,

Wilfried

ts937km,
Did you ever resolve your problem? I'm pushing Google Maps v1.4.4

google.com/gmm/apps/v1.4.4/L1/gmaps8700_v4_0_L1.cod
google.com/gmm/apps/v1.4.4/L1/gmaps8700_v4_0_L1-1.cod

and the BlackBerry handhelds successfully get the app but BlackBerry Manager reports Application Status as "Upgrade Required".

The software configuration includes Berry 411, GMaps, MINO, Ramble, and RSA SecurID. All apps install fine except that according to the Policy Logs, BES keeps trying to push GMaps every 4 hours, specifically the second file.

- GetApplicationData: Loading the module at offset 0, length 2147483647, path "C:\Program... gmaps8700\gmaps8700_v4_0_L1-1.cod".

- DoDeviceSentProcessing - Message cancelled locally, Tag=18134, EntryId=0

Anyone figure this out?

I get this message...
Unable to remove pocketday. It is required by IT policy application control.
this happened after i pushed out DST2007.

how can i set the phone to allow deletes, uninstalls? I never pushed out pocketday. I did an ota install from crossriverssystems a few weeks back. I applied the DST2007 push 2 days ago.

nevermind. i set Software configuration back to 'none' and resent IT policy and that fixed it for me.

I have a quick question regarding applications... Once the application has been applied successfully to the user's device, should you remove the software assignment? Not remove the application from the device, just remove the software configuration... Thanks!

Google released their own ALX/COD package for Google Maps for BlackBerry. And since the COD is now just one file instead of broken up into two files, that should fix the "Upgrade required" problem. Even better, the package includes COD files for eight different models of BlackBerry and the ALX will automatically install the appropriate one. Now to go give it a try...

Thanks a lot for the link. Can not wait to try version 1.4.4. This is great since a lot of us do not have OTA capability since we use Opera Mini browser over APN/TCP and can not use the BB Browser.

btw, i noticed the zip file (when downloaded using IE on a desktop) contains multiple COD files for the different blackberry models. I hoping that it will pick the proper one when i do a desktop install.

Where the heck do I find Handheld Configuration Tool? I'm using BES 4.1

<edit>
Nevermind, I figured out that in BES 4.1 it's part of the Blackberry Manager program.

For anyone stuck like I was, In BB Manager, highlight BlackBerry Domain in the left pane then select the Software Configurations Tab. You should then be able to follow the instructions from "Add New Configuration"

Default Issue with App

Hello,

I cannot get one of our apps to push. Application Status just stays on "Install Required" .. I have done pretty much everything I know and have confirmed other apps are pushing.

- deleted the package cache ..
- reindexed the folder
- deleted the application profile
- ran the SQL query to delete the rows
- rebuilt the software profile
- restarted policy service

Anyone else have this issue?
