Default BBM Pin Broadcasted without permission??

Please Login to Remove!

Hi everyone.
im not sure if this has been discussed in a post.... i have searched and could not find a related topic.

I just received a BBM request from someone i did not know. They asked if we could be "friends". When i asked them how they got my PIN, they said someone they didn't know "broadcasted" it to them.

I promptly removed them from my list.

Their name was also pretty strange... a sort of series of letters and characters. like this....

*SA(^( /\/ /\ \/\/ /|-&&89 SA*

They then sent another request and this time their name was different but displayed in a similar way.

any idea what this is??

Am i being paranoid and actually simply spurned a harmless request of friendship??
Or is there a more sinister underbelly to the BBM world?

D

Sounds like spam. If your PIN is posted somewhere somehow, it is going to happen, definitely.
There's another poster in the last few days who is getting similar and swears only one person knows his/her PIN, so it may be spammers are somehow harvesting PINs in some other ways. But I don't know.

If you have posted your PIN on a forum, remove it. In the meantime, ignore/delete/reject the spam.

I have seen this, persons who broadcast a list of other users' PIN so that is possible. Its unfortunate, the great thing is that you have to approve every request so at least that will keep out the unwanted.
