Default Should I upgrade from the Bold 9000?

Please Login to Remove!

I have the bold 9000 and went to att today to upgrade to the 9700 and was actually talked out of it. The woman said there is no reason to upgrade, and that the 9700 actually has less memory. I couldn't give her my 200 bucks to upgrade, it was a weird experience. Due to her feeling so strongly that the 9000 was the better or at least the same phone, I didn't upgrade. Should I or is the 9000 just as good or better?

Well, she's not going to win the Saleswoman of the Year award.

For one thing alone the 9700 is better, and that's form factor. On my last upgrade from a 7130g a couple f years ago I chose the Pearl 8110 as the just-released Bold 9000 was too big for me. Probably quite a personal thing. But I've happily ditched the 8110 in favour of a 9700, it's just that little bit smaller.

Also the 9000 was a bit of a power hog, the trade-off for that beautiful screen. System upgrades and other advances have made the 9700 quite frugal with battery power and it still has that great screen.

The later OS is certainly a step forward, too. There's probably less free memory available because of this, but if your use of the BB is 'normal' then it should be more than sufficient.

Whether any of that is worth $200 I can't answer for you. But it swung my decision in favour of the 9700 and I admit I am delighted with this phone.

Wirelessly posted (well lookie here!)

Wow she failed

9700 has much more memory than the 9000

9700 is very nice though I prefer the 9000 because I like the size. Again personal pref.

Keep in mind it is rumored that ATT will be getting the 9800 in june so maybe she did do you a favor

If you can might be worth the wait

If not go for the 9700 and try and get them to come down on that 200 price

I can't speak for the 200 bucks, but as a phone there is no comparison. I switched from the 9000 to the 9700 about a month ago and never looked back. Much faster, better battery life, better camera, etc.

Get the 9700, is straight up better. You will be more satisfied with it. It turns heads, trust me when i tell you this.

All the guys at my work who have the 9000 on our BES see my 9700 and rush to the in house BlackBerry guy, who sits right next to me. Sadly, most of them arent due for an upgrade yet. They are all jealous, thats right

Turning heads and jealousy are no reasons to choose one device over the other.

thats what gets their attention, and then i tell them about the upgrades of it from the older one, and then they ask questions and decide they want it.

As has already been said, the sales person is entirely wrong about memory. Please see the URL below from the Blackberry website comparing the two devices.

BlackBerry - BlackBerry | Wireless Handheld Devices, Software & Services from Research In Motion (RIM)

Choosing which device is better for you is personal preference. Use the data provided above(link and previous posts) and decide.

One has to be extremely young and naive to select a production tool based on the looks, wow factors or jealously and envy from peers. If that was the case maybe we should drop all BES servers and the berries and go for iphones. There are a couple of reports online that the chixors dig them mucho.

Coming back to the OP now. I prefer the form factor of the 9000 but on spec the 9700 wins hands down (cpu, app mem, battery life, trackpad).

As for the rep that told you the 9000 has more memory she wasn't 100% in the wrong. The 9000 has 1GB of board mem but you don't really care since it cant be used for apps, it's file storage (same use as your SD). What you should care about is app mem, which is double on the 9700.
