Hello

Some PIM applications I'm looking at as alternatives to Outlook don't support syncing with a BlackBerry directly, but can sync to Google Calendar (Google doesn't seem to support something similar to Contacts, however).

To avoid having to connect to a wifi hotspot at home just to launch the Google Sync utility and sync my BlackBerry with Google Calendar... is it possible to have BlackBerry go through the USB cable connected to my PC instead?

You say you are looking for alternatives, so if you are not stuck on a google solution, consider that desktop manager has the capability to sync with yahoo.

Are you using a basic gmail account?Or an apps account?

Is this for work? If your company is using google apps connector(using google apps preimer) for google apps using their exchange server you may be in luck.

Is your work flow for:
making meetings on your blackberry ->pushing-> google calendar or the inverse?

(I would not recommend using google contact sync in its current form (for syncing bb updated contact information -> contact pool) it trashes metadata! )

Thanks for the feedback. This is for personal use, so there's no Exchange server involved.

I'll check out syncing to Yahoo instead of Google.

I've been using google sync for ages using a standard Gmail account and it sort of pushed the calendar appointments to google calendar, but doesn't do it the other way round, and never pushes or pulls contacts contacts from my BlackBerry Address book or to google contacts. I've started using the free Google Apps standard on my free hosted private domain, and have had no problem with two way sync using google sync.
