whatsapp problem

Hi guys,I'm using a bb curve 9300 (3g) and I haven't activated bb services as yet and I'm using internet on the phone through wifi. The problem I face is that in whatsapp, I sometimes just stop receiving messages although my phone is connected to wifi and then when I reboot my phone by taking the battery out, it starts working again and all the pending messages come through to me at once. Plz help out. This is really confusing, I'd don't know what the cause or solution is, I bought thia phone from a very good friend of mine and he says it would work for him. I have tried reinstalling whatsapp's latest version but the problem persists :(
