Default BIS, "reply to / from adddress", multiple accounts

Please Login to Remove!

Can I do this on a blackberry curve, with BIS:

I have

[email address]

AND I have

[email address]

My @university.edu address allows IMAP, POP3 and forwarding.

I'd like to have "push" access on my university and gmail accounts...

I'd like to be able to reply to an email recieved on my blackberry device and have the recipient see that it's from the same email address he/she sent it to, no matter if they sent it to my gmail or university email.

THANK YOU SO MUCH, sorry to bother you with this question but it's very important for me for grad school, if I can't do this I need to look into getting a winmo phone :( :(

you can have gmail pushed already. for the university you can probably get that as well. log into your carrier BIS site or use the email setup wizard on the device to add them.

But how would that get me working as "push email"? I thought that would just poll it every 15 min (or 3 min for heavy users)? I was under the impression i had to fwd it to blackberry.net email to get push access? Sorry if I sound like an idiot...I am when it comes to this.

My question is basically, if I have @university.edu email forwarded it to my blackberry.net email and i reply to a message....will they see it from [email address] or [email address]? note: I want them to see @university.edu, just not sure how/if it's possible without 3rd party apps and/or lots of filter settings. I'd like to keep things simple, whereas my sent messages get BCCed back to me so I can store them on my PC's outlook.

no, it is pushed either way. to get instant email then you need to forward it to the blackberry.net email address. gmail is near instant anyway, as is yahoo (both in most cases)

Wirelessly posted (BB 11020)

I think he answered your question. Set up gmail normally. Then have your edu mail forwsrded to your BB address. You can set the "reply to" on your BB email address to your edu address. Then it will look like its coming from the edu address. However, then ALL emails from the BB email address will appear as if theyr coming from the edu address.

its not. At least I haven't figured out a way to do it. To do this you'd need different service books. When i reply to my BES mail it shows my BES address, when i reply to my BIS mail it shows my BIS address. I only have 1 BIS integrated mail account so I'm ok with the reply address it provides.

Maybe some vendor made software to do this for you.

so are you saying what John Clark said is incorrect? Cause I sure like what he said lol. It would work perfect for me except for the fact that I'd only be changing the "reply to" and not the "from".

When they receive an email from me, will my blackberry address be visible? I'd like my reciepients (that have emailed me at my university.edu email to not have any clue I am writing from my blackberry.

Why can't messages just come in from my blackberry email, but let me respond to them using the pop/imap settings of the email provider who the email was originally sent to?

Maybe I read what you wanted wrong ... my understanding:

Mail to [email address] when replied to comes from [email address]
Mail to [email address] when replied to comes from [email address]

What JC said was set reply to address as [email address] and all mail you reply to comes from [email address].

never will mail reply as [email address]

Sure you can set a reply-to email header ... but I don't have my mail client configured to use them ... but then I'm not your normal user.

god, I just confused myself even more by reading my reply ... ignore what I said. My brain isn't functioning in a capacity to tell you what to do correctly.

John Clark is correct. Set up gmail normally. All email coming to gmail will have your gmail address as the address it is coming from when you reply. You should really add your edu account to your BB instead of forwarding to it. The time savings is not that great by forwarding.

just follow the guide that i posted in the other thread, the link i posted above. It simplifies everything.

forward [email address] to [email address]
log into the BIS account and set the "reply to" address for [email address] to [email address].

when an email comes to [email address] it will be sent to [email address]
when you reply from the BB, it will show (to the receiver) as [email address]

This really isn't that complicated. The system is designed to do this.

That's how I use mine. My corporate mail is forwarded to my BB email address for time purposes, and that BB address is setup to look like my corporate mail. Nobody can tell the difference. Its real easy to setup, just follow the link.

Thank you..this is exactly what i wanted to see. Just that last part is what confused me...I thought that the receiver would somehow see my [email address] email address in the from box or something.

THANK YOU!!!

JC was actually pointing out that any mail from the @carrier.blackberry.net address would appear to come from the @university.edu address. Gmail would be handled properly.
