Can't be done with OS 5.xxx .. RIM changed the function of the MUTE button to only provide the MUTE function.

Not true my 9700 has os 5.0.0.405 platform 5.1.0.112 on it and if you hold the mute down for a few seconds it goes to standby.

OS 5.0.0.405 or maybe 5.0.0.415 were the last versions of the OS for the MUTE button to place the phone in standby mode... newer v5 OS versions do not, by RIM's design.

Does anyone know exactly which OS is the last to have the Mute button Standby function please? I'm looking at downgrading today.

Thanks

After the recent update it is the lock button (top left) on top that will put your phone into standby mode.

It still has the standby function. You just have to press the lock button now. If you think about this for 10 seconds it makes sense. Why would you think to press "mute" when what you want to do is "lock" your phone and put it in standby? IMHO it makes WAY more sense to push the button that has a little "lock" picture on it. It always bugged the crap out of me that it didn't work like this before. I am glad RIM finally fixed this.
