Hi folks,

We are pleased to announce Poynt is now supported on the BlackBerry Bold!

We took advantage of some of the new capabilities to spruce up the UI and give the user the ability to watch movie trailers from Poynt's movie search section. Stay tuned for more updates

You can go here with your BlackBerry Bold: m.mypoynt.com

Make sure your browser identification is set to BlackBerry

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry 8830)

Am I correct in that there is no update for previously supported devices?

The update for previous devices should be out very soon. It will feature UI and content improvements.

CELITE, this is great news! Poynt has been a favorite of mine until I moved to the Bold, now I have it back!

The updates to the UI look very good, kudos to your designers.

Being able to watch trailers is a nice addition.

Hi all,

We've updated the curve, pearl and 8800 to version 0.9.6 which features a revamped UI and some content improvements.

Enjoy.

For those who don't have Poynt already, get it here: m.mypoynt.com

Thumbs up

CELITE--

Thanks for the the update for the "legacy" devices! Can you please provide a brief change log from v0.9.4 to v0.9.6? I noticed:
  1. UI changes
  2. Ability to map multiple search results in Google Maps
Any possibility that we might see people search (aka white pages) any time soon? Adding that would definitely make this an unbeatable app...

HEY! My 8320 just automatically located my position in Poynt without GPS and without me doing anything with the app! It jus did it. So, it would appear that cell tower triangulation support has been added!

Well done!!!

I still would like to see this added.

John,

Actually since you're on an 8320, it's using IP-to-Location over WIFI. This build just patched it to make that service more reliable. We're still working towards finding an acceptable solution for cell site triangulation. It's not natively supported on the BlackBerry.

visortgw,

Stay tuned...

MyKyoo,

Still on the agenda. But I'd like to pass some questions out if I could. We're still deciding how to best present this feature, and our users may provide the best feedback.

- Would you like to see it displayed on the top during gps locates (i.e. real time - heavy network use for each lookup as gps location changes)?

or

- Would you like this functionality to be user driven (i.e. a menu option: "tell me where I am" or "save my location with address"- light network usage)?

Aha! Well, IP-Location is good....I didn't even think about that possiblility. Would be great to see the cell tower location option, too. However, I mostly just use this for movie listings. I just hope it doesn't get too bloated with stuff.

This explains why I still have no "GPS locaction" available within Poynt with my VZW 8830... Is there any possibility of Poynt using Google Maps to provide this capability, or is there no API?

As far as reverse geocode lookup, I would prefer to have it be user initiated.

While the 8830 technically supports GPS, Verizon's network is closed. Google does not provide a "publicly" available API for their 'My Location' feature...

Thanks for your feedback about the reverse geocode functionality.

To users of previous versions:

What do you think of the new interface? These things can be subjective so we look to our users for guidance.
